The more I watch Bama beat UGA and UF

If FLA played them every year it would absolutely have mattered more often. At the end of the day Bama is dominant and for that matter so is GA. AU and Tenn are the only teams that have to play them both every year. We start the season 1 loss in the hole strictly by having the annual game against the gumps.

And it seems we always pull a west team that is having a historically good year, just for that year. This year we pulled historically good OM and Pitt, to boot. The luck is crazy.
We still should have and could have won both. Even historically great for both teams was barely enough to keep up with one of the lowest points in our program history.

the more I think how fortunate those two teams are
not having Bama on a yearly schedule.
Has UGA or UF ever played BAMA during the regular
season and then won the SECE ?

Several coaches have suggested that the divisional champions should be based solely on divisional games…which eliminates the issue. But I think we just need to get better cause if we beat everyone in the East but lose to Bama we still go the Atlanta.

Well...i will explain it but forgive me I dont have any crayons.....
. . .
Eastern Middle of conference map starting from Gainsville moving north west through Georgia, into Arkansas and Missouri
. . .
Do I need to draw it for you?

Does the line from Georgia to Arkansas run through all three geographical and cultural divisions of the state of Tennessee, or does it run the westward expanse of both Alabama and Mississippi?

I don't subscribe to the Alabama is in our division, so we might as well give up football mentality.

It's going to be hard for every team to win the league. All of us, including Alabama. Saban has been making it look easy because he's the greatest of all time.

But, being better than Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida.....all in the same season.

We're all screwed. So, it's either have your stuff together or the pain is coming.

I agree but you haven’t had to face him every single year like we have. It’s not fun. But yes, the whole league us screwed. Think it’s why they are going to 12 teams in the playoffs.

It gets worse.

I honestly believe that with the money the league will be pulling in that the schools that are not considered football powers will continue to improve and be pretty damn good from year to year.

I think even Vanderbilt will generally pull in higher caliber players than what we have known and be able to fund the football program to be far more competitive than they've ever been.

I know that sounds crazy, but I really believe that will be true.

The SEC will damn near be the NFL.

Like I said tough guy….Florida and Georgia never cry about winning the East Division not playing Alabama. Seems to workout pretty damn good for them.

Apples to oranges. Talk about eliminating the World's Largest Cocktail Party or the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry, and you'll have a valid comparison.

Either of two simple adjustments will level the playing field:

1) count only in-division games toward the division championship, or

2) move Alabama to the Eastern Division.

The only thing we need to change is when we play Florida. We need to play Florida at the end of the year.

In 1992 it wasn't the loss to Bama that kept us from winning the East, but the loss to South Carolina. In 2016 it wasn't the loss to Bama, but the losses to South Carolina and Vandy.
Yeah, but there is the aftermath of playing Bama that figures in. How many players got injured? You don't always hear about many of the minor injuries that players live with but still affect their performance.

Our athletes were evenly matched with theirs in '92. There was no reason to lose either to Arkansas (before Bama) or South Carolina (after). A victory over either would have secured a division championship.

There's no indication that the South Carolina game in 2016 was lost due to injuries from the Bama game. Rather, there was major turmoil in the locker room due to Jalen Hurd refusing to play.

Somehow this year's skeleton crew managed to survive the Bama game and beat a ranked Kentucky in Lexington the following game.

This board is full of closet bammers.
But there are very few who Tennessee fans who dislike Georgia more than they dislike Bama. I live in Georgia for over 40 years and their fans make other fans dislike them more than any other team. Fact is, Georgia, as a team, had better talent than any school in the Nation. However, they failed in the most important position; Quarterback. Smart again failed to coach to the level of Saban and I am not sure he will ever beat a team who overall has overall similar talent. Georgia should have never given up the yards and points they did against Bama.

This was actually my next point. East games matter in the East and West games only matter in the West. Even if we were at Georgia’s level of talent I’d say the same thing.

The bigger question is when did playing Bama in the regular season keep UT from winning the East?

1992 comes to mind, but recently it hasn’t been an issue.

Bama pounded you guys in 2007 and UT still won the East. Since then playing Bama annually has been the least of your problems.

It’s NOT just UT playing Bama every year, its
UGA and UF seldom playing Bama.

No….

It’s going 6-24 against Florida since divisional play that’s the problem. You’re in a two game hole (due to head to head tiebreaker) a month before Alabama even comes around on the schedule.

6-16 against Georgia since 2000 ain’t helping either.

I'm just bumping this post because if you saw the recruiting rankings (using rivals), Kentucky, Arkansas, Missouri and Mississippi State are all in the top 20. Now, it's not all done until February, but the point is that I don't know how much longer anyone will be able to take any school within the league for granted anymore.

Also, SC and Ole Miss were 21 and 24.
