I am that this might be an other "Archie Who?" game.

For those who weren't around the talk was eerily similar to a lot of posts on here.

This /\

Every time I see one of these "We goin' whup Florida" threads I hear the Gator student section chanting, "OVERRATED"

If past history is any guide, them simply being Florida is worth 14 points. Tennessee goes into games like this thinking, "Boy, it's be great to win today." The Gators come in thinking, "We got this."

People, Pitt ain't Florida. In addition, two blowouts over high school teams doesn't mean anything, either.

To my mind a top-15 ranking indicates this is a possible national championship contender.

And no, we are not.

The Vols CAN win Saturday, they are certainly better than this same time last year, but this is no lock.

I don't care for the posturing by the posters on here, but the basis of Archie who was comments by Hacksaw Reynolds and/or Steve Kiner if my memory is not totally shot.

Right you are.......at least about Kiner. I think he made the statement on a live newscast in Knoxville. It reveberated all over the south quickly. Don't recall hearing much about Hacksaw over that particular statement.

Any game against UF will be a fight for us. I think we have the much better offense, faster WR group better QB. Can our O-line protect Hendon will be the question and can we run the ball on them. I think our defense will give them trouble if we can stop UF's QB from running on us. His passing leaves much to be desired. Vols win by 10 34-24.

Make no doubt, Florida going to give us a fight...... I pray the football Gods are in our favor this weekend.

For the first time in a long time, I like our chances. Go Vols, beat FL!

for those of you who missed the 69 Ole Miss game because you were not born yet, "Archie who?" (Peytons future dad) beat the Vols like a borrowed mule. The Vols were the number two ranked team in the country that Saturday afternoon and Ole Miss beat them something like 35 to zip! (edit 0 - 38)
I'm not worried about Florida's offense. I'm worried that we will come out like we did with Pitt and go 3 and out several times in a row. I'm also worried about our punting game. We're getting close to getting one blocked and everybody is coming after the punter. Scouts see it and know we are vulnerable. If we don't improve, it will happen. This how we keep losing to these guys. Every year it's like a shock. Fumbles, interceptions, turnovers and suddenly we a down 21 - 0 in the first quarter. Our own worst enemy is us. It has been for the past 15 - 20 years. The gators are just the benefactor. We need to get in front and stay there.
All it takes is giving the Gators a little confidence and then a little momentum and the wheels fall off for UT. How many times has that happened in the past? Looks like one of those clown jalopies in the circus.

Some sportswriter had described the Ole Miss team as horses. Kiner said they were mules. Then the "Who's Archie" buttons appeared and the barber shop talk was like many posts on this board.
We were 7-14 point favorites....lost 0-31....they won mainly by rushing. We had beaten them the previous year 31-0.

In his third game with the most depleted roster in my lifetime……but sure

Didn't that same UT team beat a ranked UK team on the road? You can spin it any way you want to, but we had the better team last year and still lost. MY POINT is... it doesn't matter what the records are... what the talent difference is... WHO the QB is... UF will ALWAYS be favored in this series by me. I've seen it all in this series since 1990. If there is a way we can pull defeat from the jaws of victory... we'll do it! I hope to goodness I'm wrong.

Although the volunteers have a history of making Heisman contenders out of average quarterbacks quarterbacks, this ain't no Archie Manning!

I think Pitt would beat Florida, no problem.

I understand your point. I am having to deliberately suppress my habitually pessimistic nature to avoid feeling likewise. It isn’t easy during Florida week. I am choosing to believe that Heupel will help these kids avoid the brain lock that we usually see against the Gators

LOL. I don't mean 70 YO Manning, I meant 22 YO Manning. Except for Peyton, I would rank Archie as the best QB out of the SEC ever. The apple didn't fall far from the tree.

Archie was good for sure, but the "best QB out of the SEC ever?" No way. He's behind Tebow, Peyton, Johnnie Football, Cam Newton, Danny Weurffel, Steve Spurrier, Joe Namath and likely others. Top 10, maybe. Best ever, nope. Go Vols!
