The Minimum Wage: What's the Big Deal?

When you're at the end of the buffet line at a wedding reception with four people behind you and you notice there are only 10 chicken strips left. Greed is taking 3 or more. Self-interest is taking two.

So, if we take total income/wealth of Earth, divide it by total number of people, get an average wealth/income per person, then anyone who is over that average is greedy, right? How do you think you would fair against that metric?

Not at all what my definition implies. Globally, I would assume I'm in the top 2%.

I do.
I tried to give a definition people could interpret; I failed.

That's fine

That makes you in the top 1%..

... of the world.

If you have a penny left after paying for your 200 sq ft apt and porridge and bread for the month you are one greedy-ass mofo. Welcome to the club.

Did I ever say global wealth should be equally distributed? You guys always process what you assume is being said and not what is actually being said.

This will take away from the thread but I find "Income inequality" in America absolutely hilarious. I do very well for myself and am in no way rich. But compared to Bill Gates I'm poor af and might as well be living in a slum in India. Therefore he's bad and needs to give me his money.

I was with you until the last sentence. You seem to be implying that I think Bill Gates is bad and should give me some of his money.

Apparently, I need that context shaded in for me.

You and the 4 people behind you in line all have equal claim to the remaining 10 chicken strips with the sole exception being your place in line. No one person legitimately deserves them more than another, no one has done anything to deserve the chicken strips other than just show up. You can choose to take as many as you wish. Do you take more than two? You can justify it by your place in line; after all, they could have gotten in line sooner if they were really that hungry. Or do you quickly do the math and just take two, thinking that's the decent thing to do?
