The meltdown that is happening on the Vandy message boards

I have an uncle that I love dearly. He's a Vandy alum. Thanksgiving, 2012 we all got together. I asked him: How's it going? He said, "I've had a great November!, I had a birthday, Obama won reelection, and Vandy beat the hell out of Tennessee". Happy birthday, I said.

I remember my cousin's being Vandy fans growing up (60's, 70's) and it seemed that even though their football team was always mediocre, there was a certain snobbiness about them.

I grew up in Alabama and still live in Alabama - I see the same arrogance from some (not all) in regards to their opinion of the University of Tennessee. All I can say is, I got a pretty good education at UT and haven't missed any meals on account of it.

As for Vandy fans - I see, in them, a little bit of what I feel about Bama, and that is - I pretty much end up pulling for their opponent, no matter what. UT has kept Vandy very quiet for very long and it's been sweet.

Hard to believe that General Neyland was hired because UT couldn't beat Vanderbilt. He changed that.

I don't think Mason will be able to cut it at Vandy. I don't see competence there (yet). I'll cut him a little slack because Franklin did to Vandy what Kiffin did to UT - that is; cut and run a few weeks before signing day and taking his "gems" with him. It devastated us, and the Dooley hire just threw bacteria in the wound. Yep, that sucks (dare I say it) even for Vandy.

I don't know which was worse...that ass kicking by vandy or obama being reelected.

WKU fans are confused by the opening line as well.

Vandy should honestly be a 7 point dog and that might be generous.

i mean you get 3 pts for being the home team usually. They dont even have that so this is basically even. It will drop. I remember last yr i was listening to 3HL on the thursday afternoon before Vandy opened with Temple. They were literally checking the line every 10 minutes and laughing bc it started as Vandy being a heavy favorite and dropped about 10 points a few hrs before the game. Somebody knew something. They ended up getting blown out haha.

haha they are fired up bc they got a DL commit with offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Navy, Eastern Michigan and Air Force..

He might be the lowest-rated 3-star in the 247 composite. He's not even in the top 20 in his home state of Indiana, which is not exactly a bastion of football talent.

Looks like their opening game against WKU is on Thursday at 7pm central. I was hoping it would be Saturday, but now I can conveniently head towards West End after work, scalp a ticket up to $10 I'd be willing to pay, and throw on some orange for the game. I know parking/traffic won't be different than any other weeknight in that area.

Are you sure? I just read 8:00 ET Saturday.

Love this quote:

""Playing in primetime on Thursday night is a tremendous opportunity to show our team, our university and the city of Nashville. I'm very excited about this announcement," Vanderbilt Head Coach Derek Mason said."

You mean kind of like playing in primetime on Thursday night last year against Temple?

And primetime on Thursday the year before that against Ole Miss, and primetime on Thursday the year before that against South Carolina. They don't have much luck on Thursdays, and that's even in the glory days of Vanderbilt football with James Franklin.

Yeah but at least losing close to an SEC team is usually respectable. Getting waxed at home by Temple, there was nothing respectable about that.

Vanderbilt, Western Kentucky moved to Thursday, Sept. 3 - Vanderbilt Official Athletic Site

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks they didn't want to risk the game times having UT fans show up to root for WKU.

That's a plausible theory. Another scenario that I thought of was that the important people making decisions at VU didn't want WKU fans literally doubling the Vandy fans at their opening home game. That would be a complete embarrassment for Vanderbilt especially if/when they lose. Now that it's on a weeknight I doubt nearly as many WKU fans make that trip. Gives VU a little more of a home field advantage.
