VandyMania posters are boasting about their newest commit, Donovan Tennyson (3 star WR), claiming that he picked Vandy over offers from Tennessee and Michigan State. I follow recruiting pretty closely, and I've never heard of the guy. There's not even a profile thread on him in the recruiting forum!

Ok Vandy . . . if want to believe you stole one from Butch, I hope makes you feel better about yourselves.

Jealous much? Don't blame Vandy for their amazing ability to find another turd in the rough.

Fwiw, even if they had actually stolen a recruit from UT and MSU, you're going to be stuck as a 10 loss team for a long time to come because while UT's recruiting has picked up and and MSU has found success lately, they're not exactly the pillars of dominance. Why weren't Ohio State, FSU, Oregon, the rest of the SEC elite after this guy? If your best bet is stealing a recruit from two teams that would be thrilled finishing in the top 25, they should just stop talking about winning the East forever, right now. And as you mentioned, you don't even know who this guy is so Tennessee probably wasn't hard up for him to begin with. Vanderbilt was probably one of the only schools in a BCS conference where he could get a scholarship to play football and thus they landed him.

Regardless, lol @ Vandy if they think they're going to surpass us by beating us out for recruits that only we along with MSU want. And by we and MSU want, I mean probably as a last resort to fill a hole. Also known as Vandy's future star player... in their minds anyways. To everyone else, just another dude who will help lead his team to 2 wins. Victory!

Tennyson had a couple offers and several were not committable. Thats just fact. They have also offered a few players in recent days with offers from the likes of Harvard, Cornell, Navy, Tulsa, Army, Tulane, Ball St and other powerhouses alike. With every passing recruiting cycle their roster gets worse and worse. They are pumped about their recruiting too hahaha

Plus im not even sure he had an actual committable Michigan State offer. His profile just shows he had interest from them haha

lets see if he stays with them once they go 3-9 and cant throw at all once again this season. He will almost surely have a new coach in nashville next yr.

I willing to bet that kids UT offer was something like, if we don't land these 5-6 wrs we'll take you, or, you can come join the team as a walk-on and try and earn a scholarship.

But CBJ has taken a few 2-3star kids each year and they have turned out decent so maybe he is one fo the few TRUE diamonds in the rough and Vandy was smart enough to point to our WR depth and pull him. Either way he won't have a QB to throw to him, or a line to give him time to get down field, but he will have a D that will give up points forcing them to throw all the time. So this kids may be a diamond but at Vandy he will turn into another worthless diamond ground up and put on sand paper instead of becoming a polished stone valued by the NFL.

247 has him as the nation's 187th WR and 1,236th overall player. His rating is .82, which is technically 3-star, but we're talking one bump above 2-star. We haven't even warmed up for 2016, and already have a higher-ranked WR commit (Corey Henderson). They're really grasping if they're calling this a recruiting win.

"Turd in the rough". Now that's funny. I don't care who you are. hahaha.

That's cute! On 247 it does show him holding several major offers though, including TN. Other offers of interest are:

Boston College
Michigan State
Virginia
West Virginia
Illinois
Pittsburgh
Wake Forest

Hey now, Army used to be good!

Hey now, Army used to be good!

I think the Service Academies still are for the amount of talent they are limited to. The Army has been in a pretty bad slump, but that was more on coaching and I'll give Monken a chance. But when you can't go out here and chase the serious talent, your program isn't going to be consistent top 25. Of course, Vandy will make the same claim of "serious academic challenges" hampering their recruiting, but it just doesn't sound the same...

"We're Vandy, we have high academic standards and can't get quality athletes that qualify."

"We're West Point and we have high standards for applications."

Even though Vandy can (and does) waiver the academic requirements when they want. And I'm pretty sure that the education levels are pretty comparable.

Pompous, arrogant job applicant #1 "I graduated from Vanderbilt where I interned at XYZ Corporation."

Stoic, respectful applicant #2 "I graduated from the Naval Academy/West Point/Air Force Academy where I have six years of experience in the field."

Pretty sure an employer is going to consider the education of those institutions equal and likely giving the edge to the Service Academy applicant since they know corners haven't been cut in the process.

But anyway, when it comes to sporting programs, the Service Academies are even less likely to have a recruiting edge over Vanderbilt since they can't waive the academic requirements like Vandy does. Yet they seem to be able to hold their own most of the time and carry a lot more weight on a schedule than an "SEC opponent."

Oklahoma Fan #1 "Hey guys, we have Air Force on the schedule."

Oklahoma Fan #2 "Cool, I'd bet that'll be a pretty good game and we should go."

compared to

Oklahoma Fan #1 "Hey guys, we have Vanderbilt on the schedule."

Oklahoma Fan #2 "Oh, Vanderbilt. Really? Well, a win is a win I guess. But I'll probably catch that game on TV here at the house."

When it comes down to it, I think most Power 5 opponents would consider the Service Academies more of a worthy opponent than Vanderbilt. And good for ticket sales with the amount of veterans that might come to the games to watch their former service. Especially if the college is located in a town near a military base.

Poor Vandy...

i wasnt knocking Army. Im just saying that youre in trouble when youre chasing that type of athlete and you are part of the SEC.

I'm almost as excited to watch Vandy suck this season as I am to watch the Vols play.

me too. Im really looking forward to spending the day in Nashville on the 5th. Mainly bc i will watch my Vols kick ass and get to keep up with the WKU ass kicking of Vandy right down the street.

It's gonna be a great, great day.

Vandy provided some great comedy last year, and I'm hoping they keep it up this year. I laughed out loud several times watching the Temple and Ole Miss games and Mason's press conferences afterward. They did let me down by pulling out last second wins over UMass and Charleston Southern, though.

And I will give them credit for playing us tough in Nashville. I think that was the only game all season where they played like a bad SEC team instead of a bad MAC team.

haha no doubt. They just dodged a bullet. Could have easily been 1-11. They played like a bad SEC team against us and we had half of a football team that day. Still won haha. Cant wait to see McCrary standing back there scared to death this yr.

its gonna be a great day bc the Big Orange buzz will be huge that day downtown. Meanwhile ppl wont even realize there is a football game going on in West End.

I just hope we beat Vandy like a red headed stepchild this year and not go easy on em again.

The talent gap is going to be pretty immense this year. They had another lackluster recruiting class and we significantly improved our roster.

The game is at home and they won't have Patton Robinette this time. I expect a beatdown similar to what we handed Kentucky last year.
