The meltdown that is happening on the Vandy message boards

Why not? Now that P5 schools will have to schedule at least 1 OOC game against another P5, the SECE will have a built in cupcake win with Vanderbilt. Assuming that UK regresses to the mean, the SECE will have 2 built in cupcakes. This will make the path to the playoff significantly easier.

I can't say that UTK's progression above the mean is guaranteed, either. Historic success != future success.

Fair enough. That being said, maintaining success at a school that hasn't had much historically is much more difficult than restoring success at a program like UT. I think the difference is built in institutional, alumni, and fan support.

Consider programs that traditionally aren't "power programs" but have/had recent success:

Stanford, TCU, Baylor, Vanderbilt, Rutgers, Boise State, South Florida, Kansas State.

Who has had sustained success after the "architect" leaves? Stanford and Boise State; though, Boise has fallen off and it looks like Stanford is slowly drifting backward.

Who regressed immediately after the "architect" left? Vanderbilt, Rutgers, South Florida. Kansas State would fall into this category too.

It'll be interesting to see what happens at Baylor when Briles leaves/retires.

The point is that UK is punching above their weight class. Stoops is a good recruiter and is proving to be a really good coach. If/when he leaves UK, will they stay up or will they regress. I think it's more likely they regress, especially if Stoops stays for 4 years or less.

Yet again Vandy fans are talking about how we can only brag about recruiting but continue to suck on the field.

They really, honestly believe that we have Bama-level talent and depth but somehow four head coaches in a row have been unable to do anything with it.

At least they aren't under any delusions that Mason will able to "coach up" their 2* talent now that all of Franklin's recruits are leaving the program.

The UT game is now their pipe dream hope, and because it's the last game they continue to talk about it as if it's a realistic win. They know they will at best be 3-8 coming into that game, and a decent shot at 2-9.

They are truly Same 'Ol Vandy because they've regressed to having nothing but butthurt UT bashing and prayers for beating UT to look forward to. Even then, a few are even honest to admit UT will smoke them and that Vandy Stadium will be 85% Vol fans.

I need to get my hands on some of the stuff that those Vandy fans are smoking. Must be some strong stuff

This thread was more fun before our football forum became what it is now. We lose to the # 3 team in the country and people ask if the boosters will shell out the cash to boot Butch... smh

While I don't think Butch is going anywhere, Tennessee and Vanderbilt are light years apart.

Vandy is stuck with an atrocious head coach for at least 2-3 years and players are defecting left and right from the program. Recruiting will tank and James Franklin 2.0 isn't walking through that door to replace Mason.

Whether or not Butch works out, we will at least have a pretty attractive roster for him or the next coach to work with.

I don't disagree. I wasn't comparing programs. I was comparing meltdowns. It's a bit less funny to guffaw at their idiot fans when we're overrun with the same here.

Yeah, I agree with you. They are actually starting to find solace in their suckiness by watching us meltdown and call for Butch to be fired.

I think Ole Miss has a shot at the NC this year, I'm just glad we kept them on their toes for as long as we did.

Every fan base has them. However, most UT fans have actually seen their team win conference titles and a national title. Vandy fans haven't seen their team win jack sh*t, yet they think they can run with the big boys after a 2 year aberration. Their delusion is high comedy.

Easy, buddy! Those boys on West End are defending BBVA Compass Bowl champs!!

volnation is melting down almost as much

At least Tennessee has a bright future with Butch's recruits, whether he's coaching them or not.

Lightning struck when Vandy got James Franklin. He's gone, and now reality is setting in on West End. They're bottom-dwellers for the foreseeable future.

hope your right, but the big Orange still hasn't beat anyone yet,and next year doesn't seem that optimistic either with a
bad offensive line and no proven quarterback

It'll be year 3 for Peterman and Dobbs next year. Both of them have the physical qualities necessary to run this offense (both were recruited at one time or another by CBJ). All that to say, if QB play is unreliable, then we're in big trouble. After 3 years learnin the playbook, scheme, and philosophy, one of those two better be able to bring it.

I hope you're talking about this year, because we did beat an 11th ranked USCe team last year.
