The meltdown that is happening on the Vandy message boards

I like how Patton Robinette was getting most of the reps as the starting QB during spring practice/spring game, then he promptly quit football.

I know he's in pre-med so having a good head (or at least limiting his concussions at this point) on his shoulders is kind of a prerequisite.

But I am wondering if this wasn't like a big Eff You to Mason. I got the distinct impression they didn't get along that much during the past season.

Or it could just be the rats deserting the sinking ship...

Or he had to participate in spring practice to keep his scholarship through May?? Definitely eyebrow raising.

That's gotta hurt their offense. Imagine if Dobbs took all the #1 reps in spring camp and then just quit football to concentrate on school.

Robinette isn't great, but he was by far their best option and they essentially wasted spring camp on him.

yep the other guys are awful. Mccrary is a deer in headlights man. He was like 2-7 against UT before he got pulled and we just kept putting the heat on him and he had no chance. He was like that most of the yr. Of course they have awful receiver play as well lol. So its a no win for any QB there.

I remember when they won against Charleston Southern...one of the three they won last year (LOL) and the press was ready to anoint him the next Cutler. And then he got the crap beat out of him in the next game.

Poor kid will get smoked this year by pretty much anyone who plays them if he starts.

Mason's QB management was, to be polite, baffling.

Robinette's quitting is definitely interesting. As someone who has been through the medical school application process, I can assure it was something he had been considering for a while. Medical school applications run through a national service that has to be submitted in the fall. Thus, his application to medical school would have been submitted last fall. The MCAT, which is the admissions exam, usually isn't taken until shortly before you're committed to applying.

I would say he could have applied, unsure if he would be accepted or not (a lot of people aren't accepted their 1st try), and then decided to quit for this fall when he knew he was accepted. Med school is very hard to get into and its not a good idea to turn down an acceptance when you have one, because you're not guaranteed to be accepted if you apply again. Although, some people do defer their acceptance for a year. Maybe football wouldn't have been a good enough reason for that deferment.

All that said, its a win-win for us. We get another good student going into the medical profession and Vandy takes a hit at the most important position in football.

I have a feeling he was wait listed at vandy. My guess is that one of their accepted students decided to take a spot elsewhere and he got the friendly bump

I gurantee he wasn't wait listed. This kid scored a 35 on the ACT in 7th grade...yes 7th grade. Never made anything below an A in his life. Vandy wants people like this.

Medical school is much different that undergrad with admissions and who they want. The overwhelming majority of their incoming classes were out of state when I went through the process three years ago. Doubt it's changed. Also, act scores are irrelevant. I know kids that had stellar act scores and bombed their mcat.

I know...I used to recruit medical personnel for the military and spent a lot of time in med schools and hospitals. I know the process pretty much inside and out. I do know some schools wait list the majority of their people. Knowing the Robinette family, this decision to quit football wasn't all Pattons.

Well he was going to UNC, I'm sure getting a free ride to Vandy was more strategic than anything. No lies here.

If I had his supposed grades I'd be up at Yale or Princeton. Want to be a doctor? Go to Johns Hopkins. Ever hear about their boys taking a beating? Nope. They can play football AND get a legitimately good education free sans the drain bamage.
