The Measles outbreak and RFK Jr.'s tepid endorsement of the vaccine

The local Mennonite Church there has NOT told parents to get, or not get, the vaccine for their kids.

"Leave it up to the mothers" and RFK, Jr. saying "Its a personal choice" is the same thing. But RFK, Jr., is the head of HHS, he is THE spokesperson for the US gov't, and he's being at best non-committal about it.

Of course no one can force someone to get the vaccine. But when RFK, Jr.., makes a wishy washy comment like that, he implies there may be a reason not to get the vaccine, and no responsible health care professional supports that.

I therefore am not saying that RFK, Jr., must tell people "You have to get the vaccine," but I do expect him to say that its been around for decades, it works, and there is no scientific credible reason to doubt its safety.

He refuses to do that, it is irresponsible in the extreme, and it is a glimpse into the no, or at best pseudo-science, views of both RFK, Jr., and Trump.
whats wishy washy about his statements? If you look beyond what you posted, he said more.
"Kennedy wrote. "Vaccines not only protect individual children from measles, but also contribute to community immunity, protecting those who are unable to be vaccinated due to medical reasons."

you are just being hyperpartisan, parsing up the full statement to cut out the parts that don't agree with you.

he also told people to talk with their personal doctor. that is far better advice than trying to give out a one size fits all directive.

Measles is not reemerging. Every so often there is a local outbreak of measles, chicken pox or whatever which garners the news cycle. For the vast majority of kids it is non fatal.

RFK isn't taking away anyone's vaccine. He is asking for the same rigor of testing as with other drugs, which I think is common sense.
I wonder if this Texas outbreak had anything to do with open borders and an influx of people with no screening of any kind.

Why throw in "It's a personal choice"? Why even say that? Doesn't it imply that there may be a reason not to?

Maybe a reaction to covid when the admin attempted to remove all personal choice and segregate (or worse) those who dared oppose them?

Do you support the rights of Mennonites to choose not to vaccinate? Do you support parental rights wrt Healthcare for their children?

yeah, he gives that reason in the part I quoted. There are medical reasons some people can't get vaccines. allergies, conflicting medication, weight or other health issues, trying to get pregnant, recovering from something/chemo. listen to any commercial for various medications and you will hear a litany of reasons why its best to talk to your doctor before just listening to someone who has no direct medical knowledge of your situation.

a cultural reason seems pretty valid too. like the Mennonites who make up most of the current population that are sick.

Any of these children older than 6 weeks but 4 years or younger would make Biden's HHS secretary the reason, wouldn't it???
Yeah. It's such an absurd blame game.

I actually get why someone doesn't like RFK Jr. Blaming him for a measles "outbreak" when he's been on the job 6 weeks is hilarious.

One person has died and a disease that was eradicated decades ago is reemerging, likely due to people not getting vaccinated. And the head of DHS, who is not qualified in any way to take the medical positions he has, contravenes well established science based on highly dubious-quality literature.

All against a backdrop of the most anti-science administration anyone can remember.

Yes, its worth a thread.
It's coming back thanks to Biden's open border that for 4 years let people from all over the world infected with all kinds of things come walking in!

I mean, there is **** to criticize...like RFKjr telling people vitamin A can dramatically reduce measles mortality, when that's only true for developing countries where people have a vitamin A deficiency. It's basically meaningless in the US, and prescribing that carries some risk of vitamin A toxicity, but that doesn't stop the HHS director from offering that as wisdom.
