Now that we are basically done with NSD, does anyone want to take a crack at making their ideal depth chart?

All you need to know is;

Drew Richmond - TE
Kimara - Safety
Hurd - Too tall to play football
McKenzie - the entire defensive line by himself...and maybe Tuttle

Guaranteed Championships.

I'll toss a strawman out for us to talk over, but just in general terms, not going position by position on the lines or linebackers:

OFFENSE:

OLine: Crowder, Jackson, Kerbyson, Robertson, Thomas, Hall, Jones, Richmond, Boulware, Stewart

TE: Wolf (Ethan), Ellis

WR: Howard, Pearson, North, Croom, Malone, Williams

RB: Hurd, Kamara

QB: Dobbs, Jennings

DEFENSE:

DLine: Barnett, Vereen, O'Brien, Williams, McKenzie, Tuttle, Phillips, Butcher, Mixon, Taylor (okay, I named too many for a two-deep, but we have an embarrassment of riches here!)

LB: Reeves-Maybin, Maggitt, Bynum, Weatherd, Sapp, Kirkland

DB: Sutton, Randolph, McNeil, Kelly, Moseley, Foreman, Martin, Williams

That includes a number of true freshmen -- newest class likely to make just as much of an immediate impact as the 2014 signees did!

Anyway, I'm far from convinced on some of the above myself, so feel free to suggest improvements. :good!:

Any chance Charles Mosley gets an opportunity? With his accident last season he will be a RS FR and could contribute.

Yeah, I could see him in the two-deep, I considered it when I was going through the list. There's just SO much talent on the team to pick from now among the DT and DE spots....

You know where I think we're thinnest, now that we have 2015 signees? Quarterback and Running Back. Yep, RB. I know we've already talked a lot about the QB depth chart this coming fall, but hasn't been much talk about RB position.

We have Jalen Hurd, Jayson Sparks (who? heh, yeah, he's a Junior, joined team as walk-on this past fall, don't think he has played a down at college level yet, and may never) ... then three new Vols. Luckily, Alvin Kamara has some college experience as a RS-Sophomore transfer. But Hurd and Kamara are it, if one of them gets hurt we're suiting up a true freshman (again) in our two-deep.

Alright, I'm jacked up on Mt Dew, I'll take a crack at a 2-deep:

QB: Dobbs/Dormady
RB: Hurd/Kamara
WR1: North/Malone
WR2: Pearson/Croom
WR3: Howard/Smith
TE: Wolf/Ellis
LT: Blair
LG: Jackson
C: Crowder
RG: Robertson
RT: Richmond

DE: Maggitt/Vereen
DT: O'Brien/Williams
DT: McKenzie/Tuttle
DE: Barnett/Phillips
LB: Weatherd/Jakob
LB: Bates/Kirkland
LB: JRM/McDowell
CB: Sutton/Martin
FS: TKJr/Berry
SS: Randolph/McNeil
CB: Moseley/Foreman
NB: Gaulden/?

Just my take on things. There are a lot of questions that Spring and then Fall camp will sort out.

I've been so wrapped up in recruiting ranking and needs that I forgot about our WR's. Good lord, we have as much talent at that position than any other time....that I can remember. I'm 37 so its not a small list.

Heh, yeah, ton of talent, but as far as depth goes, Coach Jones still counts WR (and RB) as kinda thin, even with the new signees...he said so in his press conference today. Insatiable appetite is insatiable (and good for us). :)

Thank y'all for daring to list draft depth charts. :hi:

I will say that there are a few redshirts from last year that we haven't even seen yet what they might do, so they tend to be under the radar. It should be an interesting spring.

absolutely. Several are in play that will only raise the bar of competition during spring ball and beyond. I would love for nothing more than players like Bynum, Gaulden, etc. bring out their best which will, in turn, bring out the best at each position!

I carbon copy this. I think Maggit stands up and plays LB a lot more. Vereen can hold it down.

Where's Madgitt and Josh Smith??

I think Maggitt is, at this point, a better fit for DE due mostly to his size at 251lbs.

He also played better there this year than OLB. He's versatile, though, and if he can stay healthy he could make a case to be a high round draft pick especially with a good combine.

He's one of the rare guys that can really play either but I just threw him at DE because that's where he spent the most time as the year went on. When he and Barnett started clicking... it was on.

They're going to do a lot of damage this year. And if McKenzie takes off as a true Freshman.. they'll do even more. UT struggled to get a lot of interior pressure from DTs this year and had to use blitzes to force the QB out of the pocket and into the lions den, so to speak. McKenzie, if he can generate pressure will forcefeed Maggitt and Barnett through the year.

Also, I should note that my 2-deep is assuming a lot of rotation with WRs and DL. We'll have a lot of guys seeing playing time at those 2 positions.

I think our coaches want to have a robust 3-deep at WR... and it's needed because of how much blocking our WRs are expected to do.
