The Make Fun Of Virginia Tech Thread

I've been sitting here and thinking about all my Va Tech student friends and Hokie fans, and not one of them is a Tech "fan" in anything other than football.

Usually they're all Duke or UNC fans in everything but football. I don't even remember hearing crap from Tech fans before they went to that 2000 National Title (and got blown away).

Bandwagoners, every one of them.

Just speaking for myself I'm a huge Tech football and basketball fan. It's hard to be anything but a football fan for Tech if you live outside of Blacksburg because of very little television coverage in the other sports. You do have a huge point there though. Seems like no one else cares about Tech in the other sports and probably grew up watching the Heels and Devils on TV and decided to pull for one of them. It does look like UT is goin to be solid in bball this year though. Pearl is a heck of a coach. It'd be a great matchup to see our bball teams match up. Two great coaches in Greenberg and Pearl.

Prior to 99 they didn't have much of a program at all. Their stadium was even smaller back then, and made Vaught-Hemmingway Stadium look like a giant.

String together a few winning seasons playing Big East and ACC competition and all of the sudden they think they are Alabama or Michigan or something. I look forward to their program disappearing just as fast as it came.

Checked out that Va Tech message board today...

Favorite line was by a character named VTHOKIE4LIFE07, "LOL who did Tenn beat this year besides South Carolina? GA? psh ok"

I think this summarizes the ignorance/arrogance of Va Tech fans that others have mentioned on here. The teams that he was "psh ok" about beat both division champions in the ACC, and that Georgia team beat their conference champion at Ga Tech, a feat Va Tech could not accomplish.... and we blew both South Carolina and Georgia out.

It is also ironic that any ACC team would try to pull the "who have the beaten" argument on any team, let alone the second place team in the SEC east. Who did Va Tech beat? Miami?? NC State?? Virginia?? Boston College?? Duke?? Maryland?? East Carolina?? Marshall?? Psh ok. Va Tech's most impressive victory was against a mediocre Nebraska team that still dominated Va Tech in every aspect of the game except for the score (similar to us at Alabama). It must be nice to play a schedule soft enough that it has seven or eight guaranteed wins built in. Must be boring though. The fact they can even fill up that small stadium of theirs is impressive given the fact they don't play anybody.

I think that many of them believe all conferences are the same, and do not understand that a 7 win SEC team is likely a 9-10 win ACC team... and probably conference champions.

Couldnt have said it better! I live in Roanoke about 30mins from blacksburg and the ignorance of VA Tech fans is unbelievable.

I would love to see this match up in basketball. Apparently Pearl and Greenberg know each other at leas somewhat, so I think it will happen in the near future, maybe this football game will maybe lead to a bball game next year.

I saw this poll on Footballscoop.com. The question was, "What is the strongest conference in football?" There were only six choices available. The results were...

SEC, 70%
Pac 10, 8%
Big 12, 7%
Big East, 6%
Big 10, 5%
ACC, 4%

This was posted in another thread and I found it humorous enough to warrant being posted in this thread as well.

This is for a conference championship between two teams that are ranked in the top 15 in sunny Florida... and this is who showed up...

When was the last time the SEC championship did not sell out?

It looks like that for Jaguars games as well. Only game that stadium is packed for and sells out for in advance is the UF/UGA cocktail party. And that is how the SEC rolls!

Ya, the ACCCG is a joke.

I have been to all three games in which VT has been apart.

I think the league screwed up bad when they put the game in FL. The ACC designed everything so that FSU would play Miami, and it hasn't panned out yet.

While I have no excuse for why VT fans haven't gone well since the 2005 game, it has been horrible with BC in the game. Last I even checked Boston didn't have any flights to Jacksonville.

Is this for real? They should probably just disband.

In all seriousness, if I ran the league I'd give up on this neutral field in an NFL stadium. It isn't going to work in the ACC like it does for the SEC and Big 12. Though it isn't necessarily fair, the best thing to do would probably be to have it in one of the participants' stadiums like CUSA does.

That'll get people in the stands, and they should look pretty full since most ACC stadiums are fairly small.

Again, not really fair, but it works. CUSA had more people in its championship game this year than the ACC did last year when it was Va Tech and Boston College.

Just trying to balance the scales

I saw that when it came on FailBlog and I've been looking for that guy at every game since, though I have not yet been successful. I am curious to whether or not he is aware that is an internet celebrity. If so, I can't imagine a better motivation for weight loss.

can't trolls give us anything. We name the damn thread the make fun of ____ thread. It's the thread that provides the most laughs and we shouldn't have trolls posting stuff making fun of our team.
