Welcome Hokies. :hi: Don't let some of the extreme on this board scare you guys off. This probably isn't the best thread to try to get into a discussion (and don't be offended, we do this with every upcoming opponent). Glad to see you guys here, let's talk some football.

I grew up near NoVA (Fredericksburg, Stafford, Aquia, Dumfries) so I'm used to the Hokies, although none too fond :p (blame that on my relatives that are mostly alum)

Anyways, again don't let a few of us offend ya, welcome to VN (the best site on the web not showing boobies.)

no need to get into a pissing match, we've all got fans that would be better suited as bammer or mountaineer fans.

again this is the "make fun of (next opponent) thread", usually reserved to stupid jokes, funny pics, and the occasional hot coed (should be more of that IMO).

anything related to Beamer's burn, the tragedy from a couple years ago, or anything else you wouldn't want your mother/daughter to see; is just in bad taste and shouldn't be here. if you guys see anything like that, in the bottom left corner of the post under the poster's avatar and info, there's a triangle with an exclamation point in it, use that to report the post. we've got the best mods around and they'll take care of it, assuming it breaks board rules or whatever. :eek:k:

I grew up in Fredericksburg too. Stafford county Hartwood area. My grandparents live just up the road from Aquia in Garrisonville. Looking forward to a good match up in a few weeks.

Not trying to start arguments and I see your point about some of the Tech fans bein arrogant and obnoxious. From what I have seen I understand where you are coming from specifically with the younger fans. A lot of kids are coming down from Pennsylvania and New Jersey and going to school at Tech and really giving our fans a bad name. Also a lot of the younger crowd expects too much like we are the best team to ever walk the planet. Definately not true. We are a decent top 25 team, but a lot of times we have a hard time keeping up with the traditional powers due to the lack of talent. Our coaching does a great job considering the lack of talent. We are making improvements though. Here is a little bit of what it seems a lot of you haven't experienced on trips to Blacksburg, but I hope you do when you make it down to Atlanta if this deal goes through or any other trips in the future. Response from Nebraska fans has Tech administration happy with Hokies Respect campaign

Looking forward to a great bowl season and hopefully seeing the Big Orange in Atlanta.

Getting a bunch of kids from the Northeast can ruin a fan base. In my time at UT I had a number of acquaintances from Jersey, Boston, and Pennsylvania, and they were all unbearably obnoxious and rude. Fortunately at Tennessee it is such a negligible amount that it is easily dismissed. A lot of people from Nova aren't any better than people from Maryland or Pennsylvania too.

Hopefully in Atlanta we'll get to interact with the good fans like yourself.

Living in the Tri-Cities, I see more VT stuff than any team other than Tennessee. The vast majority of the stuff I see is mock turtle necks that are stretched to the max around fat necks, with camo VT hats satin VT jackets.

Of course you can see VT fans in NE Tennessee before they get out of their trucks. Just locate the "truck nuts" hanging off of their hitch on the back of the truck.

yet you are still signed in....if you want to talk football then try taking it outside of the make fun of va tech thread. this thread is all good fun...we do it for every game, but you will not gain any ground if you stay in it. It's that simple brother.

Wow I think you nailed it with the PA/NJ reference. I've been to a few games at VT and thought it was odd that the crowd was like a 50/50 mix of southwest VA and DC/MD people, but replacing DC/MD with Penn State fans would be a much better fit. The older VT fans are great for the most part. The fresh out of college VT fans are pretty unbearable, at least the ones that I work with and saw at the games. I hope we get matched up in the CFA bowl though, it would be a great game.

Crazy, I lived in hartwood across from the winery on 612. Went to hartwood elem, gayle, and stafford high.

That really is crazy especially with how small of a place Hartwood is (although it's continuously growing). I grew up on Shackelford Well Road a quarter mile from the elementary school. What year did you graduate from Stafford?

Checked out that Va Tech message board today...

Favorite line was by a character named VTHOKIE4LIFE07, "LOL who did Tenn beat this year besides South Carolina? GA? psh ok"

I think this summarizes the ignorance/arrogance of Va Tech fans that others have mentioned on here. The teams that he was "psh ok" about beat both division champions in the ACC, and that Georgia team beat their conference champion at Ga Tech, a feat Va Tech could not accomplish.... and we blew both South Carolina and Georgia out.

It is also ironic that any ACC team would try to pull the "who have the beaten" argument on any team, let alone the second place team in the SEC east. Who did Va Tech beat? Miami?? NC State?? Virginia?? Boston College?? Duke?? Maryland?? East Carolina?? Marshall?? Psh ok. Va Tech's most impressive victory was against a mediocre Nebraska team that still dominated Va Tech in every aspect of the game except for the score (similar to us at Alabama). It must be nice to play a schedule soft enough that it has seven or eight guaranteed wins built in. Must be boring though. The fact they can even fill up that small stadium of theirs is impressive given the fact they don't play anybody.

I think that many of them believe all conferences are the same, and do not understand that a 7 win SEC team is likely a 9-10 win ACC team... and probably conference champions.

I've been sitting here and thinking about all my Va Tech student friends and Hokie fans, and not one of them is a Tech "fan" in anything other than football.

Usually they're all Duke or UNC fans in everything but football. I don't even remember hearing crap from Tech fans before they went to that 2000 National Title (and got blown away).

Bandwagoners, every one of them.
