The Majesty of Atlanta Falcons Football

I think they could swing Tony G an extra 2 mil to get him back, S. Jackson, and Freeney and still be slightly under the cap.

The cap hit we have taken on Ray Edwards still pisses me off.

Freeney would be a good pickup if the price is right. Jackson would help open up the passing game even more. I hope it happens.

Still think we need a fresh young pass rusher. I don't think Freeney has a lot left in the tank. Prob only gonna play about 30-40 snaps a game at this point in his career.

Even though the actual cap hit is rumored to be low, how in the hell did Sam effing Baker get a six year, 41 million dollar contract.

Unbelievable.

This better be part of TD's attempt to show Ryan his commitment to keeping "good" pieces around him in hopes of persuading him to sign for below market value.

Well....just remember the total dollar amount in nfl contracts is fairly meaningless.

Baker gets 18 mil guaranteed and will more than likey not see the end of this six year deal. He was the best left tackle on the market and someone that Ryan trusts. I'm ok with it.

Like you said, low cap hit.

He's the one Falcon I can't justify getting that contract. Even 18 guaranteed is unpleasant for me.

Matt released the ball so quickly this past season, plus Baker was in a contract year. I hope it's at least incentive laden.

I'll feel better when he's cut in two years.

Falcons sing Steven Jackson.

My reaction...

"Falcons sign RB Steven Jackson (3 years, $12M; $4M guaranteed): A Grade

Think about this for a second: Steven Jackson is getting $4 million guaranteed to start for the Falcons. Shonn Greene received $4.5 million to be a backup for the Titans. How is that possible? There's a reason the same group of teams reach the playoffs every year, and it's the same reason the same organizations draft in the top 10 every April.

This is a great acquisition for the Falcons. Their most glaring offensive need was the running back position, and Jackson is a massive upgrade over the combination of Michael Turner and Jacquizz Rodgers. The concerns about Jackson are his age (30 in July) and workload (2,395 career carries), but even if he regresses, he'll still be much better than Turner was last season. Plus, it's not like the Falcons are devoting a ton of money to him. If Jackson sucks, they can just dump him without much of a repercussion."

From Walterfootball.com, but I thought it was pretty telling.

Unbelievable deal.

Lets not forget the job that the staff did last year with keeping Turner fresh by limiting touches. I would guess the same approach would allow Jackson to thrive...hopefully.

No doubt. He should fit our offensive approach perfectly.

My only worry now is where Snelling fits in the rotation. Not so much because he was a bell cow or anything, but just because I like his attitude and effort. I could see him being let go since Antone Smith got extended.

Falcons are awarded 4 compensatory picks. One 4th rounder and three 7th round picks.

Total of 11 for April's draft.

The Osi Umenyiora rumors seem to be heating up. He supposedly is taking a physical for the Falcons today.

If they land him they have had one of the best offseasons in a long time. Still can't believe they got Steven Jackson for that cheap

Osi to the Falcons is a done deal. 2 year deal. I love the contracts that have came out of the organization lately.

In a non-related note....I watched the Todd McClure retirement press conference. Good stuff. Going to miss him. Also said he would be added to the ring of honor.

Best Quote, "I told the organization that I would come back for 1 more season, for 10 million and no training camp and only half the home games...But Tony already signed that deal."

Well . . . They definitely took care of the CB position via the draft. The defensive backfield just got a lot faster.

I think this may mean they plan on bringing Abraham back in. We entered the draft with 2 CB, we have definitely addressed the D backfield. Good picks so far.

Really liked our draft. TD is very adept at raising our floor, which is what keeps our window of championship opportunity open.

The only positions I would have liked to add would have been another DT and LB, both of which weren't absolute needs.

I feel the same way about TD and the draft. It went well. I was actually surprised we picked a TE. I figured it would be all defense. I think that Trufant can come in right away and start.
