Well here we are once again. Florida week has arrived and those old familiar knots have returned to my stomach. The Gators will be in the back of my mind and distracting me in day to day life all week. They live in my head rent free and it can get so bad I'll sometimes dream of this game. I have never dreamed of any other opponent but I have Florida more times than I can count. That ain't normal or probably ain't healthy either.
It's no secret here how much I despise Florida. No team has cost us more in the past 30 years. When we were at our best we owned, Bama, UGA, Ky, Vandy, and USCjr. every year. We'd have a close call every now and then but I was always confident that we would get the W. Florida was a different animal though. We would go into that game playing not to loose and find a way to choke.
Remember 1993 going into The Swamp ranked 5th and losing to a freshmen Danny Wuerffel making his first career start?
Remember getting shut out in Neyland 31-0 in 94?
Remember taking a 30-14 lead in The Swamp only to completely meltdown and turn the ball over 4 or 5 times in the second half and loose 62-37?
Remember 35-0 in a blink of an eye in Neyland in 96?
Remember the ST breakdown and Peyton pick in 97?
Remember Lewis being inches short in 99?
Remember Gaffneys non catch winning TD in 2000?
Remember all those fumbled snaps in a downpour in 2002?
Remember losing by 1 point in 2006?
Remember chocking late to loose by 1 point in 2014 and 2015?
Remember loosing on a Hail Mary last year?
Remember losing 11 straight and "Can't spell Citrus without UT?
I know you may be feeling bummed out and depressed so maybe this will cheer you up a little.
Remember laying the wood in Neyland in 1990 and winning 45-3?
Remember whipping some Gator ass in a downpour in 92?
Remember Big Al wreaking havoc and and big plays from Price and Bryson and wide left in OT in 98
Remember the Ice Man and Stephens picking apart and running through the best D in CFB and draining the Swamp in Spurriers last home game in 2001?
Remember the Clausen to Banks halftime Hail Mary in 2003?
Remember the 50 yard game winner from Wilhoit in 2004?
Remember coming back from a 21-3 deficit and taking Floridas soul in the second half for a 38-28 win in 2016 snapping that 11 game losing streak?
I remember each and every one of these moments Nation. They represent the highest highs and lowest lows I've ever experienced as a Vol. This game has meant the most to me for nearly nearly 30 years and that will never change.
Here we are once again. In 5 days Jeremy has the opportunity to get his first signature win against our most bitter foe If he can beat the Gators in Neyland under the lights it will energize this team and fan base to levels it hasn't been in some time.
I want this victory more than any other Nation. Oh how sweet it would be to wipe that s**t eating grin off Mullens face Sat night.
Oh how I hate the Gators Nation. I hate them with an unhealthy, irrational, and undying passion.
