Taylor Swift sought to buy the master recordings of her first six albums. The party who contractually controlled them chose to sell them to a third party. Yes, this third party had nothing to do with them prior to the purchase and only wants to develop whatever revenue streams can be generated from them. Having made a good faith effort to meet the controlling party’s terms to acquire the rights to her master recordings and been scorned, Taylor has been re-recording and reissuing her songs on albums with bonus tracks. These will compete with catalog sales of her original albums. It’s not personal, 82/83, it’s business.
