Tennessee has the best winning % and has won more FB games over the last 80 years than any other school in the country. That means that Tennessee has been the best FB program on a continous basis - not Alabama, So. Cal, ND, Texas, Mich., Ohio St and etc.-; this stands for something. Any school can have runs of 8-10 years or even 20 years ala FSU but to do it consistently over a span of 80 years means being special. Not only have the Vols accomplished that feat but they have done it without ducking playing tough competition; many of these teams with high winning percentages/wins have done it while playing a lot of "little brothers of the poor". While UT has not had what you would call a great team since 2001 history says this program will bounce back up again and once more join those of the elite - and very soon.

Temporary lull, once we have a dominating running attack again, every thing will be back to normal.

Exactly how many championships has this wonderful 80 year run garnered?

You're right. I can't think of anything more important to getting the program back on track than the result of a game against Sewanee in the 1930s.

2 Official National Championships!
Exactly. To claim a place among the elite, you better have the championship hardware to back it up. Winning percentage stats are the last refuge of those who don't win championships.

You are correct. I'll take 6-6, 8-4, 13-0 National Championship over 9-3, 9-3, 10-2 every time.

Not only losing a Peach Bowl game, but being crushed makes it a little worse.............. :banghead:

true that always gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling doesn't it. driving back up 75 knowing you just got dialed by a inferior team. makes you like to see a coaching change. :biggrin2:

God. I just LOVE how you all jump on every single person that supports this University with such hate and negativity.

Just once, just one F'ing thread, I wish I could come on here and read, and you damn people would say, "You know what, we are going to let them have this one. We are going to let them support the team without copy and pasting the same tired ass insults at our school, or coach or players."

One day, maybe that will come. I'm sure it will take a National Championship to get you all back on the bandwagon, but maybe one day!

It's a tough neighborhood around here. If you come with weak, Polyanna logic you get jumped. If you don't like it, pony up some dough and move into the Brent Hubbs suburbs.

No, it's not what i would call tough. It is just that you like to make this board miserable for most everyone.

I don't feel the original post is "support" by the way.

Football programs are often evaluated by decade, highest winning % in the 80's, 90's, 00's, etc. So far, there has been a noticable drop off from this decade to last.

I agree TVTT. Some people talk like we are UTC or something.

It's nice to have tradition.

btw, I know this has been discussed many times but if you count total national championships like many schools do (cough, cough, Alabama), then we have 6.

Tell you what hatvol96 why don't you take your load of crap and shove it. It's obvious you know nothing about the history of Tennessee or college FB for that matter. Tell me hot shot when was Alabama first "voted NCs" by the Associated Press and how many of their claimed 12 NCs were awarded by the national media? Which team has the highest winning % in the SEC - Tenn/Ala ?

HV96 it's also obvious you haven't got the money to join Brent Hubbs's site. I guess waiting on tables and taking orders at Wendy's doesn't pay you enough.

I have to disagree with the premise of this post. It would be the same thing as people from Italy saying that since the Roman empire has the best percentage of world domination based on the number of years that various nations have been a lone superpower in the world that we should all recognize Italy as the greatest country in the world. Sports history is fun but generaly meaningless for any purpose other than trivial knowledge to fill one's head. The real entertainment value of sports lies in the here and now, the game-to-game performance. How else do you explain so many empty seats in stadiums when teams are slumping?
