Heard on ESPN that players are prepared for up to two years of no basketball. This is gonna suck.

Meanwhile at NHL headquarters, Gary Bettman rubs his palms together, thinking "Good, good"

No way does that happen. Even uneducated NBA players have some notion of opportunity cost. The owners definitely do.

I hadn't even considered that side effect to no hoop. Hockey having the stage to itself between football and baseball. The question is would more people actually watch though.

True but i think the effect of basketball being more global will make players more reluctant to cave. The best paid players in basketball can probably afford no income for a while. And the ones who can't can always go overseas and make a nice hunk of change. I think the owners have been emboldened by what the NHL did a couple years ago and are willing to wait a while. I hope everybody can come to some agreement cause i will miss basketball if they don't

It could work in reverse. Because there are pretty decent players in other leagues (unlike football), the non-stars of the NBA are easily replaced.

Neither party can afford to skip a season. The NBA is a middle(not bottom like NHL) feeder of sports and has finally gotten some attention. With the momentum that they have right now it would not be wise to have to start over. The NFL can afford it and that's about it. The NBA IMO can't afford to lose any interest in it's sport right now.

Maybe Arena football can start in December. Actually now that I think about it, Arena Football sucks.

I remember my professor in early Econ classes using lebron as a case study for opportunity cost.

I wonder if NBA 2k12 will have collective bargaining mode.

I don't want a hard cap. The small teams will still suck.

Doubtful; maybe a little, but not as much more as everyone thinks. The NHL is still on Versus, and people are still going to watch ESPN. I bet ratings for college sports increase

Yes sir. CFL has some players that were decent in college.. AFL... not so much....

Doesn't afl still use Kurt Warner in ads?

Anyways, there is as much conflict in the NBA between owners as there is owners and players. The association is going to basically have to reconstitute itself at this point to survive. Don't see that happening without missing a season.
