Spangler IMO would be the best X & O guy.

He is not the hire Dooley can afford to make unfortunately.

FYI I do not want Dooley to hire him at this point, for the exact reasons you stated. Had Dooley had us winning more and have more excitement in the program I would be all for Spangler.

Sounds like it's either gonna be Bennett or Zook. I'm hoping for Zook at this point.

The problem with Spangler is that he isn't proven. We need a proven coach, as much for the PR as we do for the coaching and recruiting. We are trying to change the stigma which has recently been attached to UT football. We are not a proving ground for up and coming coaches to see if he is good enough, we are a power program that only accepts the best coaches and elite players. Come on people, set your sights higher, this UT for crying out loud.

I think Bennett would be a very solid hire. People are so hyped up about Shannon, but I actually think Bennett would be a better hire. Not sure how good of a recruiter he is though.

Craig Bohl. Been there, done that. Coached some of Nebraska's best defense's. Coached Div1 for 18 years. Went back to coach at lowly North Dakota State and just happened to win the FCS Championship this past Saturday with one of the best defensive schemes I have ever witnessed.
pisses me off that everybody thinks that we need to hire a "name". Big fricking deal. Shannon has a name. What Championships has he won. Steele has a name, VanGorder has a name. None of them impress me. You want to see an impressive defense - ESPN3 - Sam Houston vs NDSU. Before any snide remarks - watch the defense.

I agree, I think the other assistants could overcome that though which is something he has not really had at his other stops. Coach Joseph is really underrated as far as his recruiting abilities goes, and deserves a lot of responsibility for holding this recruiting class together, and CLT came to us known as a great recruiter. Plus being born and raised in texas, and spending the majority of his time coaching in texas he gives us a good connection to the state. It is never a bad thing to have a presence in texas.

For the record, Bennett's LB coach has been with him at several of his stops and is BU's best recruiter.

you think this recruiting class is not important?

It could fall apart quick with it looking like CDD is on at least a warm seat,and another mediocre hire at DC.

Its very important we hire"a name" right now
