right now I'm with crazyguy. I don't really see any of Timberlake's music lasting longer than a decade, but I guess time will tell.

As for Steamroller, I do really enjoy it, in fact I've yet to find the James Taylor song that I don't like. But "something in the way she moves" (the slower version), "Carolina in my mind", anything from Mudslime Slim and the Blue Horizon album, "Sweet Baby James" and "Song for you so far away" are songs that immediately come to mind for me. "Song for... away" is possibly my second favorite song of all time. Behind only "Melissa" by the Allman Brothers and maybe, just maybe "Name" by the Goo Goo Dolls.
all good stuff. James Taylor greatest hits is probably in my top 5 of all time.

You have to throw in Fire and Rain.

I said this before -- I enjoy Taylor's music more. Mainly because I love folkish music. But I just don't see him having the overall talents musically and otherwise of Timberlake.

Maybe because it's the cliche hit, but it's just not as revered by me as the ones I mentioned. Still a fantastic song though. His cover of Carole King's "You've got a friend" is one of the very elite songs in which I like the cover version better.

Taylor has tinkered in several different musical genres as well though. And been successful, very successful

I agree with you on "You've got friend", but just because Fire and Rain has been overplayed shouldn't take away from it.

As far as liking covers better than the original, I put Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt" no. 1.

I had no clue that it was a cover....

That's just a possible reason. Believe me, it's way up there on my all time faves, but when James Taylor comes to mind, there's so many songs to mention, "you've got a friend" usually winds up a little down the list.

I had no clue that it was a cover....

you can never stop learning! :eek:k:
