It was obvious that Marvel had planned on Spiderman taking the helm from Iron man but since Sony, who controls the rights to Spiderman, couldn't reach a deal with Disney, who owns Marvel, Spiderman would have been effectively cut out of any future movies. It has only been a couple of days since the two were able to come to terms and keep Spiderman in the MCU.

Oh, so there might not have been anymore Spiderman movies?

Or, just not any Avenger movies with Spiderman?

If this deal had not went through, any Spiderman movies afterward would have been completely unrelated to the storylines that you currently know as Spiderman as being involved in or with.
