There was a time when maps depicted no western boundary to the state of Georgia. Seven land barons chaffing at the influx of lawyers into the Georgia legislature purchased what would become Alabama from Georgia. Unfortunately for them, lawyers wormed their way into Alabama's statehouse. The disgruntled disposition remains to this day a characteristic of Alabamians.
