The Last of the 5*'s

I think this is also part of his original point which many on here have a hard time comprehending.

I don't like giving a Gator credit, but you have nailed this one.

It's a safer bet to have a 3 star commit with impeccable character who will more than likely invest himself int he program for 4 years then a 5 star with questionable work ethic or character issues, yet many insist on the 5 star just because, well he's a "5-star".

Let the coaches evaluate and quit focusing on stupid stars.

we don't have a very good history with most five star recruits we've had though, they were talented, but besides berry and meachum they really didn't play to potential. Hoping Da'Rick is an exception to that majority.

Someone on the team once told me that Morley was one of the best DBs he has ever seen but dude could barely remember how to tie his shoes..

actually

James Banks, Gerald Riggs Jr., Robert Meachem
Jesse Mahelona, Albert Toeaina, Demetrice Morley, Eric Berry, Ben Martin, Janzen Jackson

All these guys contributed at some point. Still a sad list but if you are gonna call folks out at least tell it like it is.

5* are like 1st round draft picks, they are not supposed to "contribute", they are supposed to carry your team and star.

Does that list not say something about stargazing? I'll go with CDD's evaluations and let the services play their game

I think it says more about the inaccuracy of judging JUCO players by the Star rating

A senior 3 star player that has experience is more than likely better than a 5 star freshman, no doubt about it.

We should only want 5*’s if they have at least 3* character and academic ability. SEC is now prohibiting over signing so every scholly is more precious than ever. A 2* that makes the kick-off coverage team his junior year is more valuable than a 5* that can’t get on the field for behavior or academic reasons. Don’t get me wrong I want all the 5*’s we can get if they pass muster on character and academics. But it’s a privilege to play football at THE University of Tennessee and everyone accepting a grant in aid to play football needs to respect that even if the are a 10*.

These lists just go to show how on the average 5* players are way over hyped.. and usually very wrong..

Take your coaches word on a player.. not some dumb site that has no actual skills in determining players worth.

To this point DD hasn't shown he knows how to build a winning team. Also to this point, the Rivals rankings have proven to have an almost exact correlation to the teams who win in the SEC over the past 10 years. Until someone proves that you can win with guys that Rivals says aren't any good, I'm going to lean towards believing the proven commodity.

I'm not a stargazer but see the importance of getting top notch guys. How are these guys rated? What is the REAL differance in a solid 4 star v. a 5 star guy? I know stars are just the opinion of recruiting services and media outlets so I would go with a coaches evaluation first and foremost.

....all of college football had better hope that the CDD recuriting model works because if it doesn't the entire sport may be at risk....

Peyton Manning says he can win championships with 3 stars. :) Just look at the colts.

No, but over the past 10 years all the recruiting data has shown that the level DD is recruiting at isn't good enough to win the SEC. That's not to say it's impossible, but I'll believe it can happen when I see it. The tangible facts we can look at say that you don't recruit worse than half the conference (according to the recruiting services) and win big in this league. It simply hasn't ever happened.
