For the last 16 years no matter what there has always been the feel that with the right hire that Tennessee could be great. Phillip Fulmer the day he was hired as A.D his words were Tennessee Football has the history, the tradition, and the the facility to compete and win with anyone in the country that much is very true. Now they can call it what ever they want but the question has to be ask with the history, tradition, facility, and all the resources money can buy why haven't we found the right A.D, the right head coach, and why are we not winning?

How many years have we had two Head Coaches on payroll during that period. 13 years? Hell of a price to pay for not getting it right. If we had hired the right coach in the beginning we could have saved a ton....Geico Moment..

Last AD we had was Doug Dickey....The rest have been terrible.

Yep when it's all put down on paper the years of extremely bad management add up to become really costly.

The fallacy of hiring cheap...

In 2007, we had 32% more athletic revenue than A&M. Now they have 48% more than us.
In 2007, we had 11% more athletic revenue than Bama. Now they have 14.1% more than us.
In 2007, we had 24.3% more athletic revenue than UGA. Now they have 21.1% more than us.
In 2007, we had 27.6% more athletic revenue than LSU. Now they have 10% more than us.
In 2007, we had 19% more athletic revenue than Auburn. Now they have 6.1% more than us.
In 2007, we had 59.2% more athletic revenue than UK. Now they have 5% more than us.

In 2007, we had 61% more athletic revenue than USCe. Now we only have 2% more than them.
In 2007, we had 49% more athletic revenue than Arky. Now we have only 4% more than them.
In 2007, we had 354% more athletic revenue than MSU. Now we have 22% more than them.

I prefer the phrase “the 16 most recent years of UT football”. The “last 16 years” sounds like we are already dead (like “the last years of the Roman Empire”). But maybe that is actually what you wished to convey here 🙂

Wow, quite the indictment of the firing of CPF..... I am sure that is what your intentions were.

We pretty much are already dead. To the football program that a lot of knew and what it has become of those years yea I would say it's dead. At this moment in time our history looks like a pipe dream to our present with really no reason to believe in change.

BREAKING: According to sources, Jeremy Pruitt will either be the head football coach for the Tennessee Volunteers next season or he will not. No further information is available at this time.

Add 4 university presidents and 5 chancellors. The turnover is insane...

My intentions showed the last full year (2007) before we made 4 bargain bin hires in a row....

It's not an indictment on hiring or firing Fulmer but the revenue impact of the 4 cheap hires made after Fulmer...

I don’t pretend to have the answers: facilities, largest recruiting budget, fan support, strong academic school, up to date dorms w nice campus and a nice city beyond the campus.

Is it the donors meddling? administration?
Something is broken as it’s been 13 yrs since we won’t the East and as OP said, numerous losing sessions.

We all though 05 was an anomaly-wow!

I think something is broken but I also think somethings are by design because we don't have to win to make money that much has been proven. I think a majority of Tennessee powers that be are happier with controlling the program more than they are seeing it win. There just to many things that says this is more than just hiring and firing because if that were the case we would have done found a guy that can't win here.

With the most important coaching hire in the department, we focus more on the cost than the results. That's why we are getting lapped on the football field and why UK generates more revenue than us now.

It’s all about getting the right coach. Bama was Tennessee 12 years ago. But they finally figured it out and hired Saban and the rest is history. Getting the right coach is partially luck. The right guy hs to be available at the right time for the school. Right now we have the right guy available. Hugh feeeze. If we went to him amd told him that it’s his job. He’s the only camidaye we’re pursuing end we’ll do whatever it takes to land him we’d get him. And he’d win here just like he has won everywhere he’s ever been
