It's a business decision. They may be willing to put up with it if it helps his career. Plus in person they may find things aren't so bad. The reports have been the family is less than enamored with Cal. They are a great program though. Doing their due diligence. If that is the case then why even visit?
The only good part of the hire was he was gone and Barnes could be hired.I have referred to Tyndall as simultaneously the perfect hire and the worst hire possible. If not for the USM issues, he'd have been a great fit and coach here. Scandal-free, he would have been an excellent choice at the time. However, because of the issues and the apparently low amount of vetting that was done by Mr. I Have a Level of Expertise and Information that No One Else Has, it was a horrible hire. Then again, Tyndall was pretty much the only coach in the profession who Hart could have hired who would have caused the job to pop open again a year later to line up with Barnes.
I hadn’t even thought of this.. I wonder if Barnes would be willing to mention this?Blackshear needs to keep in mind how Grad Transfer Reid Travis fared while in Kentucky last year. Travis, whom I actually like alot more than some of Kentucky's other "star" players who were invited to the draft, is not even projected to being selected this Thursday. Even though Travis played a pivotal role for UK, he dropped in production, shifted roles, had to adjust as a leader to the freshman, and ultimately wasn't able to showcase himself as he wanted. If Blackshear wants to be developed to another level and be the focal point of the team, Tennessee is a better option.
I generally agree with most of your points, but I don’t understand why anyone in this country would support huge organizations like the NCAA and the athletic departments they represent having absolute control over these athletes. Seems like a violation of the athletes individual freedoms, freedoms that are the bedrock of our constitution. Run a good program and your players will want to stay. They shouldn’t be forced to stay. This is a little bit of a hot take but I feel this way. First of all anyone that’s followed my post over the years know I hate the grad transfer rule. I don’t like it and other than Texas tech it really hasn’t worked in most cases for programs.
Imo if Blackshear doesn’t add two more rounds to ours season then I would rather have our home grown players. That would set us up for the future better anyway. I just hate free agency in college athletics
I think he made that comment because of all the talk of UK not being as big of contenders as other teams. Such as someone on here talking about his family not liking Calipari and this visit being treated as a "business trip." Also made it seem like the visit to Texas A&M is far from a guarantee and that he could commit to UK on his visit.Yea that was an all time dumb tweet
Sounds like a very smart young man who is carefully weighing all his options. These are the kind of players we like here. Whether he is a Vol or not, he's made a careful, intelligent decision based on his personal needs.Exactly. It seems that RL's whole reason for saying the staff isn't super confident was based on the fact that he scheduled two more visits. Could be he's just making sure of things.
This makes little difference IMO. They still have three open scholarships after this commitment, and would welcome back Bkackshear if he decided to come back. I think he likely ends up in the SEC, but VT will still hold a place for him.VT probably knows he's not coming back at this point
Hokies land promising big man John Ojiako
Interesting. To add to this post, here’s the article where that poster got his info:Guy on another site said Blackshear's parents did not go to KY with him.. Anybody else hear this?
