The JUCO thing

Hows kongbo working out for us?

He was a project to begin with, but gained valuable experience with playing time. He was an exception to general rule with JUCOs. They never expected him to play immediately since he is relatively new to football. He has always relied on his physical skills and now he must learn technique. Stripling will help make him a good player. I expect him to make great strides with winter workouts and spring practice. He has only been on campus since fall practice.

Again it is all about evaluation. Unfortunately we missed on Blair at OT and that really hurt us.

JUCOs are fillers to upgrade a team immediately. Majors was very good at finding JUCOs. It is all about evaluating the prospect. The one JUCO we are targeting for CB is starting to gain a lot of attention from many programs and it helps us that he and Kongbo played together,

Do you think Kongbo has good things to say about the program after all his struggles?

I want to play you at poker

What changed your mind Count? You were one of the lead guys saying Cotman and the Twins were "jumping" ship on Jones. Now you're proven (yet again) wrong. So it's just cry no matter what? You were told last night (with accuracy) by people who know what's going on that he was let go. So, who was right?

I think his so called struggles are more an issue of media and fan exaggeration. He was always going to struggle. I have no inside info, but he should be All Vol. He has a great future here.
Some have said he a Nixon are close. I do not know.
I am hoping that maybe Fair could be coming back to Rocky Top and bring Nixon with him.

Edit: Kirby Smart has now offered Nixon.

Jones's system has been failing for quite some time now.. Mac coach in the Sec.. it has already been established Jones is way in over his head.. he needs major help if he stays.. other wise the 2010's will be the decade of the choke artists.. and this fb program is DONE.

Gbo.

Auburn one a natty with JUCO mercenaries. Grant it they went 3-9 a couple seasons later but we'll worth it IMO. High risk high reward move

Seems like Dooley's last class and Fulmer's towards the end had more jukos than usual, and we know what happened after that. I hate seeing CBJ get desperate and mortgage the future by turning away good high school talent for a quick fix.

If this doesn't work out its just going to be that much harder for the next coach.

so, are you saying Butch has no chance at all and just biding his time while his agent tries to get more money before he bails...:)

GO VOLS!

Y'all are reading way too much into this whole "Juco" comment by a recruit. Ryan Callahan who is not a CBJ homer was talking on a local sports radio show in Chattanooga and stated that the reason UT cut ties with CJ Cottman was because they felt he did not really fit a position well. They recruited his as a db but apparently he has not performed very well in that capacity during his senior year. They did not want another "athlete" who had no natural position especially being a position of need.

You get good players--preferably from high school but if you can nab an excellent JC player, you do so. Problem is, a LOT of Jucos are busts--including highly rated ones. We've seen that. They often aren't getting good coaching at a Juco, and they often/sometimes have other issues, which is why they had to go to a Juco in the first place.

Going after JUCO players sends a red flag to me and tells me he sees he has nothing and wants some experience and hope it pans out for him next year to get another raise, and buyout. He is planning for his future is all. Trying to secure some big money after he gets fired.

Kamara and Owen Williams are Scrubs. You're right.

Chuck Smith, Chris Mims, Dale Carter, Charlie Garner, et.al were all terrible.

Juco's are the worst nightmare.

Losers.

don't forget Cordarelle Patterson and Von Pearson

Heres the thing though. The early signing period for JUCOs starts in two weeks and ends sometimes in Jan. It's getting awfully late, not saying it won't happen but if Nixon (the JUCO CB) doesn't say he's visiting in the next week, it isn't happening.

Is it a red flag when bammer and Ohio St and pretty much every other school goes after them too? Or just butch?

Were it not for Hurd's issues, we'd never have seen him at the level we finally did at the end of the season. Anyone with any football IQ would have told you at season's start that Kamara was better fitted to Butch's system than Hurd.

Agree. Been saying it for two years. When he only got 4-5 touches vs Oklahoma and 3-4 vs Florida in 2015 many of us were screaming from the hilltops that he needed to be a much bigger part of this offense. And when Hurd got 28 carries vs App State and Kamara got 7-8, I was pulling my hair out. Absolute coaching malpractice by Jones and Debord there.

Were you saying that in between recommending our best young players transfer?

Butch doesn't have much choice but to try and salvage 2017, he's had an inordinate amount of failure when it comes to developing players in the secondary and at LB

Outside of Kamara, I can't think of any JUCO in the past 5-7 years that made a big impact here. I blame most of that of CBJ's evaluation of talent.
