Does anyone believe that the staff designed the run packages in the bowl game last year and sold Jalen on the fact that would be our offense this year? He had dreams of becoming UT's leading rusher and becoming a star on he national stage. Instead he gets more of the same system that inhibits his ability.

If this is the case I really can not blame Hurd for his attitude.

He gave no effort his senior year in HS and sat out cause he had his ride. Think he is doing the same thing?

If that is what he is doing he is only costing himself money. Arian Foster dogged it his senior year and went undrafted.

I can't imagine where his NFL draft stock is at, but does he doesn't currently look like an NFL prospect, not really, no.

He needs to end the season explosively or plan on staying another year. He has not shown that tackle breaking ability. I suspect he will go low or unstaffed at this point if for no other reason than his numbers dropped off and he seems to have nagging injuries this year.
With his talent and ability he deserves to go high but hasn't shown that on the field

Didn't he get injured and have surgery that made him miss the season in senior high school.

Pretty sure he missed his whole senior season to like a shoulder injury or something....kids a beast in a poor system with no blocking

Agree with this. Some of this has nothing to do with the OL or the offensive scheme - the first tackler seems to always take him down. He is big and strong enough that he should win that battle at least 50% of the time.

The injuries have not helped - suspect he has had more injuries going on than we all know about.

I would love to see him have a break out game where he proves all the naysayers here wrong though.

The offensive system doesn't seem to be an issue with the other backs.

Is he hurt physically?

He looks, at best, worn out.

Just another fact, along with all the injuries we have had, that has had me wondering about the strength and conditioning program at Tennessee. Tuttle's injury is just further confirmation of this issue.

People need to lay off Hurd. We have no idea what's going on. Is he an elite back? No, but he's stuck it out in a system that really doesn't fit his skill set and hasn't said anything negative or shown a bad attitude, etc.. People saying he has are just projecticing their own negativity on him.

He's gotta be hurt but he also has zero vision. It's not an accident Kelly/Kamara are putting up better numbers

does anyone recall a posting where they stated Hurd was looking to transfer out after the bowl game last year? I am wondering, while is posted as a troll, if there may not have been to truth to that!! To me there must be some type of internal strife going on inside that team.

One final comment and then I will leave this alone.

The fear of being injured or getting hurt again can lead to players being less physical and they alter their style of play sometimes unknowingly. To be successful on the football field, a player has to be physical.

In this situation, the coach has to be honest with the player and then it is up to the player to make the decision on whether they still want to play at the level it takes to be successful or not. The difference can be mind boggling when a player who has been "holding back" suddenly decides to "turn it back on".

Not saying this is what is going on with Hurd - I truly believe he is hurt and not at 100% physically - just saying that recurring injuries can have impact on a player other than the physical aspect of the injury and both the physical and mental aspect must be overcome for a player to be at 100%.

Right cuz when you have a torn labrum in the first game and are out for the season that equality no effort. You kill me. Do your homework before making such stupid statements.

If he can't get yards running inside zone, outside zone, iso, trap, counter, sweep from the shotgun, he's not going to do much as a pro.

Can't really say that he sat out. He was injured and nothing is worst than playing hurt in HS. Further damage.

Plus he showed up as a VOL in Jan as an EE. Did the right thing for all concerned.

Any issues that Jalen Hurd may have are the issues that the Coaches may have with him. Which again has caused drama.

I agree with some of this. I don't buy into "doesn't fit the system" as a RB is either good or not, they run the ball or they can't period. Hurd has proven he can run the ball. Anybody recall how Fournette, Chubb, and don't forget McCaffrey were elite RBs this year and which of these 3 would get the Heisman Trophy? Funny thing happened, none of the 3 had very good OLs to run behind and chances are all three will be sitting at home along with Hurd watching the winner and runners up in NYC. So VN posters need to get off Hurd IMO.
