Don't think I'm making an excuse for the totally inexplicable happenings this season. I'm not. But I just wonder if Alabama had all of the injuries occur in the same places in the offensive and defensive schemes that we have had this year if their record would be any better than ours. I doubt if it would.
If you took three of their all SEC performers out of their lineup at the start of the season and followed that with losing basically your entire offensive and defensive lines the rest of the season, would they be any better than 5-3? How many of our losses have been directly caused by breakdowns of those new players inserted into the lineup? The answer is A&M and South Carolina. Without those next men up, we would be 7-1.
What about Florida or any other SEC team you plug into the scenario? None of them would probably have had any of the miraculous wins we had. Just food for thought!
