Support for Trump's impeachment, is down party lines. Independents are pretty evenly split. There is no evidence that there has been a backlash against impeachment as Republicans were claiming last week. There was a backlash against the impeachment of Bill Clinton in 1998, but an important point that Republicans are missing, is that Bill Clinton's approval ratings were already high to begin with. He was well over 50% when that began. You can't say the same thing for Trump.

I'd agree that there has not been any new movement since the numbers reset after the details of the Ukraine aid withholding broke. I think most people decide what they think first, then seek out whatever facts support their view, so any movement is remarkable.

Also, these numbers are not great for Trump. Any backlash is certainly more wishful thinking than reality at this point, and being in a position to try and capitalize on the backlash to your impeachment is never going a position of strength.

Makes sense to me. Many people act more like bots than bots these days. Hell, the bots can at least learn to re-arrange the work of others into an algorithmic facsimile of originality.

I, for one, welcome our AI overlords. Did I say "overlords"? I meant "protectors".

This country is moving towards socialism at a relatively slow pace. You can look at generational spans (30 years) and see the move. The Democrats of 30-60 years ago are today's Conservatives. The Socialists of 30-60 years ago are today's Democrats.

In time, we will be just like the UK. Their conservatives are closer to our liberals. And their Labour party are unabashed communists.

Looking at his website and I came across his issues tab. Some of his ideas regarding military and veterans make sense. Then there's this:

  • Immediate demand that all government spending as part of public-private partnerships only be done with cooperatively and democratically owned businesses or businesses with a unionized workforce. Our government should not be promoting authoritarian institutions whether it is abroad or domestically.

Schumer starts out by insulting the Republicans, then acts like the trial needs to be fair with an open mind and he has no idea what the 4 witnesses will say then states that the witnesses will convince the undecided republicans that trump is guilty. lol. Hes such a snake.

I find it pompous to demand anything from republicans given the way the house conducted their inquiry.

Just said again not to prejudge the case. Cant stop lying. My god.

In 1999, Mitch McConnell voted to impeach former President Bill Clinton, saying the President "lied — deliberately and methodically" to the American people.

According to his closed-door impeachment statement, which was released into Congressional record in February 1999, McConnell found Clinton guilty of two articles of impeachment — and said both warrant his removal from office.

"I believe that William Jefferson Clinton has abused and violated that public trust," McConnell said at the time.

He continued:

"His cold, calculated actions betrayed the trust vested in him by the American people and the high office of the presidency. The President of the United States looked 270 million Americans in the eye, and lied--deliberately and methodically. He took an oath to faithfully execute the laws of this nation, and he violated that oath. He pledged to be the nation's chief law enforcement officer, and he violated that pledge. He took an oath to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, and he willfully and repeatedly violated that oath."​
McConnell — who today is the Senate Majority Leader — has said there is "no chance" President Trump will be removed from office.

“We all know how it's going to end. There is no chance the President is going to be removed from office," he told Fox News last week.

There's to much support for Sanders and Warren to believe it's a "slow pace." Young adults would love to sit on their azz and get paid.

It is a slow, steady pace regardless of the support for any politicians. That's last sentence is a bunch of broad brush BS.

...and Poltico, The Economist and Fox News are in favor. Who is to say which one is right? The numbers have not changed much at all over the last month, just like Nate Silver pointed out. There has been no backlash against impeachment as Republicans want to believe. It is and has been an even split along party lines.
