The hostess at the center of investigation

Ummm....I'm trying to figure out exactly how the NCAA is responsible for ruining this girl's reputation. They haven't mentioned her name once.

I believe her name and photographs with the players who are being questioned were posted on this site for the whole world to come look at.

Blame it on the posting policy of this site and the behavior of the posters for providing the ammo that is most responsible for her sudden fame. Oh yeah...she is accountable for her actions and her decision to take that picture in the airport was questionable. I mean Willis is lying back on the chair with a contented grin while she is kneeling between his knees. It looks like she is leaning against his crotch.

Most college aged women have a pretty good understanding of male anatomy and automatically maintain a respectable distance from the family jewels unless they are pretty comfortable in that neighborhood. Sorry to say....but she didn't look uncomfortable at all in the picture.

Similar issue in her picture with Bryce Brown. Their bodies are closer together than one would normally see two people who hardly know each other in a platonic situation.

Different people will infer different things from those pictures, but the NCAA isn't responsible for what's in the pictures or the fact that they were freely posted on this site.

So what exactly is the stipulation on distance from said jewels outlined by the NCAA? Just wanting to check where we can all get our rulebook straight. Secondly was LPE even the girl that made this trip or was it another girl?

My post was addressing the idea that the NCAA is somehow responsible for damaging this girl's reputation.

The NCAA has not made any public mention of this girl. Nothing.

If you aren't asserting that the NCAA is responsible for damaging her reputation, then we have no difference of opinion to debate.

Honestly I don't even know that this is that major of a deal to the NCAA. I think it is entirely possible that this story got leaked to this "reporter" at the worst possible time for Tennessee. We're in the middle of prep for a bowl game and searching for two coaches to fill out our staff; with the timing nothing would make me think that this wasn't orchestrated to derail this program's recruiting. I think the girl's reputation was just a casualty of war. I've heard that LPE wasn't even the girl involved in the incident at Byrnes but I have no idea if that is true or not.

miraclemax- Let me help you. The NCAA is the source of Thamel's article. Someone with the NCAA leaked this information to Thamel who then came forward with that information and libeled all the hostesses who are members of this year's Orange Pride. Thamel along with the individual at the NCAA who leaked this information to him are personally libel along with the NYTimes as a corporate entity. Now, the NCAA may in the course of negotiating the lawsuits of all the young ladies who have been harmed due to the libel, may elect to give up the leaker and extricate themselves from further damages minimizing the harm their agent caused. But make no mistake about it, Thamel would have been unable to libel in this circumstance were he never to have been informed of an "investigation" "wide ranging" at that of "hostesses" and "recruiting" at the University of Tennessee, which we now know to be false. There is as of this date no investigation, much less one that is wide ranging. There may be one some time in the future, but that does not excuse Thamel reporting as being false on the day it was published and libelous toward every young lady in the Orange Pride organization. A minimum of 9 figures should be brought against the NCAA, the leaker within the NCAA personally once revealed, Thamel, and the NYTimes at a minimum right there in Knox County and the sooner the better.

Wow...9 figures.

You don't even mention what the libel is.

The report indicates that hostesses attended a game in S. Carolina with a "Come to Tennessee" sign. I'm pretty sure that fact is almost unanimously accepted here.

Where is the libel? What is the thing that has been written about these girls that might not be true and intentionally harmful to their reputation?

Where are you getting these facts CD?

I honestly hope this isn't true because I would feel even worse for this young lady! The media has destroyed her and probably much of her future. I agree with everyone that she threw some sticks on the fire with her "I recruit champions... Thank me later pics" However, she is still a young adult. She is still making mistakes in college. If that was the worst I did in college I would thank my lucky stars! A defensless girl is being crucified in the media because in this day and age of technology people are too wrapped up in others lives. Being a vol fan I drove to Dallas to watch the Dixon kid and a couple others I heard Tennessee was recruiting. I was fully decked out in my Tennessee garb. Do I need to call Lane and apologize because I could get us in trouble for that? This is the craziest thing to me. I understand they are employees of the university BUT universities pride themselves on hiring students to help them get through college. Another fact of college life student workers exist! Like I said people drive upwards of 5 hrs to watch high school football in the state of Texas I am glad to see these young ladies supporting their friends. That's right college students also make new friends every day people...

I wish this poor girl and the rest of the young ladies being lambasted in Orange Pride. I personally thank them for what they do in representing the University to perspective students whether they be athletes or not. All I know is I wish my girlfriend in college would have been willing to travel a couple hrs to watch some football, would have certainly made me happier and impressed with her!

no disrespect but you only have 4 posts and could be a spook...

As of the date of Thamel's & the NYTimes publication, the University of Tennessee, Orange Pride, the Athletic Department, the football staff, and none of the young ladies within Orange Pride referred to as hostesses were under a wide ranging NCAA investigation. It was false when published and still is today. There are specific details and definitions of what an NCAA investigation is. That had not occurred as of date of the publication. It has not occurred at all per the NCAA and the University of Tennessee up to this moment. I'm not sure 9 figures covers the public falsehood and harms done based on the libel the NCAA, it's agent, Thamel's, and the NYTimes originated as I was being conservative.

Why don't you cut and paste the section of the article that is defamatory. You're talking like someone dropped you on your head when you were a smalll child.

All of this is crazy. These girls (and couple of guys) go through a tough interview process conducted outside of any of the athletic staffs. Aside from what they look like physically, they are chosen based upon how personable they are as well as their knowledge of sports, pop culture, and Tennessee history. Basically, they have to know how to get along with other kids in their age demographic and their parents, friends...whoever.

They aren't officially trained in NCAA rules like some people are saying, they are attractive tour guides put in place to promote the university. OP is made up of undergrad students and get paid minimum wage, but ask any one of them and they will tell you that it takes FOREVER to get their check...and I'm talking 3-4+ weeks. They have to use their own money to buy food etc. even on game days when they have officials visiting with them. The young lady that has become the hot google topic is just one of many who become good friends with some of the guys who visit...especially once they have committed in some form or fashion. She is not the only one, and was not the only one there at the high school game. This is unfortunate for her as she has been in OP for 3 years and one slip of the tongue has gotten her fired. I mean, her facebook and the photos have been out there for a while and nothing has been said...what gives?

We aren't the only school with a hostess-type of program and I just can't believe how over-the-top this has gotten.

not so fast my friend....I think some of the girls were recruited this year as opposed to previous years when the selection process you described was used.

That's true too, and I know some of the girls asked to join just this fall. The young lady in question, however, has been there prior to this. In any case, the same interview process is used regardless for those who are wanting to be in OP for the fall during the spring semester.

I'll say this as delicately as I can. The last thing most of those girls want to do is put themselves in a position where they would be testifying under oath about the nature of their relationships with players and recruits.

Why don't you go back to third grade and redevelop reading comprehension skills? My point has been about libel not defamation. Thamel's article was false, there is not now nor was there on the date of publication an NCAA investigation. He was assisted in publishing the libel which touched Orange Pride, the hostesses, and The University of Tennessee by an agent within the NCAA. Thamel, the NYTimes, the agent personally, and the NCAA employing the agent can be sued for libel, it was a complete falsehood published. I'll let the the courts decide what the damages are and the amount to be awarded. You sound like somebody forgot to lead you off the short bus at the end of the day.

Libel = written defamation
Slander = verbal defamation

Without defamation, there is no libel.

So...why don't you copy and paste what was written that leads you to believe she was a victim of libel?

Never mind...it doesn't exist.

If you really think about it... can you imagine the reaction of the high school players when they realized the girls were there for them. Talk about big man on campus.

Are you serious?

Absolutely, do you know what they are accusing the University of? Do you approve of this if it is true? I don't know about you but as a alum I don't want anyone from the University of Tennessee doing this kind of stuff.
