The Herd starts the rumor...

So many people are ingrained with the current image of USC football. The "anybody could recruit to USC" senitment. If you will do your research you will realize when Kiffin started at USC that program was in bad shape. Kiffin was part of the group of coaches that pulled the program out of the gutter and laid the foundation for the stud program USC has right now.

That was a COACHING problem, not a recruiting issue. If you can't recruit So Cal, you SUCK! That area is just as good, if not better, than So Fla.

I mentioned this on the Kiffin thread yesterday.....I changed my mind about him based on his interview on ESPN. He is class!!! He could be a great coach in college(spoke well, dressed well, admitted mistakes, and was classy). But lets be honest. I could recruit to USC and so could you. The 20th best HS team in So Cal would destroy the best team in Tennessee. Fact! The only reason USC was down for a few years (nice call BTW) was there coaches STUNK!

Kiffin is the only one UT has a chance to get!

Peterson does not recruit nationaly, Muschamp is a DC. Not what UT needs. UT needs Offence. Chavis is fine.

Kiffin may work, but who knows? What has he ever done on his own? He was a Co-OC at USC and did not call the plays. That was Sarkesian(sp). I say give Clawson the job and let the man run HIS offence. See what happens in 5 yrs! He will surprise alot of people. This year is not his fault (HC)

Tennessee needs someone who knows how to pop all these offenses in the mouth in an agressive manner. They need a head coach that bleeds emotion. Again, someone please explain the obsession with offensive coaches. No one has answered it yet. Just why does every Tom, Dick, Chris Petersen, and Harry that has a half decent offense is all of a sudden the second coming.

While defensive coaches who punch these offenses in the mouth are just life time coordinators.

peaygolf89,
First off how many national championships did UT win before Fulmer was head coach? How many national championships was Lane a part of at USC?

Also, the program at USC was terrible in the late 90's. It did not turn around until Pete Carroll took over.

Answer...1 (1951) just as many as CPF has won. What does that mean? You just contridicted yourself. You said what did Richt, Meyer, and Fulmer do? That was what you asked!

I am Not Saying I am Against Kiffen . We are talking like a bunch of Politicians here.

What Has LANE KIFFEN Done for any team he has coached?
Why Kiffen? he has no track record except that Al Davis Says he is a Liar..

If UT has $$$$$ to spend then why not go after someone that is Proven????

I dont care about Fullmer he has been @UT for over 20 Years all together. He will soon be in the past.

I agree. Why has Chavis never gotten a HC job? He is qualified! He has had offers, but did not want the jobs.

HC's need to think outside the box on offence. It will be soon, when the basic I formation (run down the throat) is "outside the box", the wish-bone is "outside the box", Those Offences will come back very soon! How hard would it be for SEC coaches to deal with Ga Tech's offence?

I should not have compared Richt and Meyer to Fulmer. I was trying to make the point that Richt and Meyer's were not "big name" coaches when UF and Georgia hired them. Sure they had some experience as coaches, but I don't think when Urban Meyer was hired they thought he would win a National Championship within a couple of year. Kiffin is in the same mold as Richt and Meyer, but younger. He can recruit and coach. Plus he has NFL coaching expirence.

I get tired of people throwing out names of coaches we will not get. Jon Gruden, Billick, Vince Lombardi, it is not going to happen. The hire "within UT" is not going to work this time. One of the most qualified is Lane Kiffin. Otherwise, throw out some other names.

These offenses you speak of will always be stopped by a great defensive mind.

Nothing, Nothing, Nothing in my view beats an offense that lines up with the defense knowing what their doing and just mans up and runs them over. It starts up front.

An offense like LSU's last year is one I'd love to see at UT. Smashmouth, couple that with a great defense and you get championships.
