Anyone who remotely turns on ESPN these days knows about Lane Kiffin. I'm sure as UT HC, he'd get a lot of name recognition, especially if he were to get the HC job. That would be the story of the offseason for college football.

He was never OC when they were NC's. That would be Chow. Kiffin's biggest opponents always bring up the fact that when he was OC, he didn't win a NC.

Here's my coaching wish list (even though some of these may never happen):

1) Jon Gruden - very, very small chance I know, but he is a former grad asst. whose wife is from Knoxville & is a UT grad - how awesome would it be to get his discipline and innovation in that program.
2) Chris Peterson - Boise St. head coach - young and energetic - has coached at a high mid-major level and would be very hugry for a high profile job. Plus, he has to recruit nationally to have success at a school like Boise St. Besides, they've won more BCS games this decade than UT has!
3) Lane Kiffin - recently fired as Oakland Raider's head coach - imagine how well 17-18 year old kids would relate to him (not to mention the mothers) and if he puts good coaches around him he could be very successful.
4) Will Muschamp - current Texas DC - previously at Auburn and played at UGA - again young and seems to relate well to players - never been a head coach, but knows the SEC well.
5) Jim Leavitt - South Florida head coach - literally built that program from scratch and has turned them into a very reputable high mid-major. Recruiting may be an issue as he probably relies on Florida, FSU, and Miami rejects right now and would have to be able to recruit nationally at UT.
6) Steve Sarkasian - USC OC - again relatively young and hungry - never been a head coach but would have a great pipeline for recruiting in California and seems to really know his stuff.

I see us going 6-6 (w/ wins over NIU, Wyoming, KY, South Carolina and Miss St. and losses to Ala, UGA, and Vandy). However, South Carloina game could go either way. If we go 5-7 Fulmer is done and I think he's done at 6-6 also.

I was preaching about Chris Peterson for a while, then I discovered he's a Scientologist. The board nor the South would ever go for that...Hell of a coach though.

Kiffin is the only one UT has a chance to get!

Peterson does not recruit nationaly, Muschamp is a DC. Not what UT needs. UT needs Offence. Chavis is fine.

Kiffin may work, but who knows? What has he ever done on his own? He was a Co-OC at USC and did not call the plays. That was Sarkesian(sp). I say give Clawson the job and let the man run HIS offence. See what happens in 5 yrs! He will surprise alot of people. This year is not his fault (HC)

I am not crazy about NFL guys coming back to college. I know Kiffin did start at USC so he might be different. As far as gruden I dont think that would work well.

Not proven anything? What did Fulmer prove before he was hired as head coach? Mark Richt? Urban Meyer? Kiffin was the youngest coach in the NFL and recruited some of the best players USC has had. Sure Pete Carroll was a huge help. Do you want another 6-6 season for the next 2 years?

Richt was OC at FSU during their heyday, UM took a mid major to a BCS game. What more do you want???

Fulmer was a GREAT play caller at UT during the Major's years was a O line coach at UT that had Still, A. Davis, and Charles Mc. All ALL-AMERICANS! He did great for many years as an assistant and was great his first 5-8 yrs at UT. Time may have passed him by, but don't ever overlook what he did at UT!

BTW...You and I could recruit to USC! That does not take a rocket scientist. Sweatered Cheerleaders!!! Come On!

So many people are ingrained with the current image of USC football. The "anybody could recruit to USC" senitment. If you will do your research you will realize when Kiffin started at USC that program was in bad shape. Kiffin was part of the group of coaches that pulled the program out of the gutter and laid the foundation for the stud program USC has right now.

First off how many national championships did UT win before Fulmer was head coach? How many national championships was Lane a part of at USC?

Also, the program at USC was terrible in the late 90's. It did not turn around until Pete Carroll took over.
