The HC Search: What most of us are thinking

The fact Kiffin or Leach don’t even get a call shows Phil’s good ole boy incompetence. We are headed toward cellar dwellers in he SEC folks. Will have a lot more free time on Saturdays. Horrible move to name him AD. He is too hard headed.

I have stated since the beginning I was not a fan of Phil as AD. All this come together crap was to prepare us for his hire. From here on out the Vol fans will either be OK with whoever they trot out or will just give up. This was a make or break hire and Blackburn should have been the one making it, you know someone "qualified" to make it.

So tell us where Blackburn is these days and what he's doing since his disappearing act from UTC, and how whatever it is makes him up the UTAD challenge.

Please tell me I am not the only one feeling this way? What the he** is Phil doing?

This is arguably THE MOST IMPORTANT head coach hire in the history of UT football...and we are hearing names like Steele, Tucker, and Morris??

Meanwhile, all our rivals are busy celebrating or locking down their #1 or #2 top choices. It makes me sick to my stomach. We supported this program through the Hamilton/Hart/Kiffin/Dooley/Jones fiasco and this is what we have come to?

I just cannot, for the life of me, understand what Phil finds appealing about interviewing and potentially hiring these guys....

You offer Petersen, Miles, Venables, Tee, or Kiffin (da** what your prior feelings are) and don't let them say no. There should really be no questions about this.

Sorry guys, I'm just really, really frustrated at this point and am terrified we will be forever in the pit of misery of this hire isn't done right. Talk me down!

I'm with you buddy

Maybe we could go back to the single wing. That seems to be working for everyone else.

Are you really ready to go back to off tackle right, off tackle left, run up the middle, punt? We should just get Randy Sanders and offer him 500K . After all he bleeds orange. This is turning into one big weary orange bloodbath.
With a RB like John Kelly, all it would take is a little tiny hole to be much more. Better than 2 yard out passes where the ball is in the yard for 25 yards, only to be intercepted on the first play of the game.

I like Sumlin a lot if we can't get our guy Venables. Hopefully we can get him though. Make Venables an offer he can't refuse. He's the next big time coach and we have a chance to get him. Back up the Brink's truck and make him say no.
Why? What has he done to earn your admiration? Sumlin that is.

What have YOU heard Fulmer say?

He has used no names and has made a lot of contacts.

At least wait until an acorn hits you before you start the "Sky is falling" malarkey.

It's the way some on here pass the time, thinking up worst case scenarios. For what we have been through I believe CPF will hire the best coach possible.

Our coaching search by this late date is like trying to buy candy the night before Halloween....all that is left is those yucky "circus peanuts" and candy corn. And it is all grossly overpriced.

The aggravating thing to me is that it was obvious to anyone with half a brain by halftime of the Georgia Tech game that Butch wouldnt survive the year. There is no excuse for not having our top choice coach lined up and ready. It should have been as simple as getting the signature 10 minutes after Butch was canned. If we come out with a good coach it will be a miracle and not a result of competence on our part. I mean, you couldn't have set up a scenario better than where we stood at the end of September. The ball floated up over the net, perfect for a spike, and we slipped amd fell.

Inexcusable

This is the most embarassing debacle I have seen in UT Football in my lifetime. Our grandkids and possibly great grandkids will be talking about this and shaking their heads when they read about 2017

What most of y'all are failing to realize is the simple fact that Fulmer is not the man that put us in the position that we are in. The list of candidates that we are left with right now obviously were not Fulmer's first choice. Just like in recruiting, you can't knock somebody over top of the head make them come here.

We need to realize that we are now tainted goods as a result of the last ten years of Haslam influence... Whoever takes this job now has to be okay with the fact that they are our 15th pick(or worse).

We also need to realize that we have been getting our ass kicked in a ten round battle and we look the part. You can't have two black eyes and a bloody nose and go try to chat up all the pretty girls in the bar.

Of the rumored finalists name a team that hired a new coach this year you wouldn't trade places with.

My concern is that is Fulmer hangs around long term, he'll be too stubborn to admit he made a crappy hire so that 3 years will wind up being 5 or 6.

We watched the last years of Phil Fulmer teams sink lower and lower. Because of his accomplishments and our loyalty, firing him took almost forever. Bringing him back might seem like a good move to an outsider like Davenport, but my optimism about Phil being a better and more mature man soon faded when I realized that he screwed up the Leach hire. My feeling is that Phil has not changed at all. He is the same man who inherited our elite football program, prospered for a while, and then ran it into the dirt. My fear is that his confidence in himself and his old school ways will have more downside than up, just as it did when he was Head Coach.

Not going to end well. It looks like we may have too high opinion of ourselves. None of the top coaches want to come here and deal with this chaos. It is going to take some time to erase the "dumpster fire" image we currently have.

Starting with the athletic dept. They need to show some competency and that it isn't some rich booster's plaything. A decent coach wants control of the program without an AD or a booster looking over his shoulder, questioning his every decision.

Its going to take some time. We fans aren't good with patience. I know I'm not.

It really is sad where we are right now. I never thought Tennesse would be a laughing stock, but here we are. Just pick someone so we wont be in the spotlight anymore!

Anyone got a Xanax?

Could not agree more. How our admin doesn’t see this is beyond me. Hell we are hated by everyone outside TN anyway. Go get Kiffin and let it be us against the world.

We can’t compete on the field or in the living room with these names. Considering our competition actually hired people everyone knows. The only thing, and I mean the ONLY thing good about any of these is maybe one or two recruits will see Tucker as a route to the NFL, but I doubt it. We will start a new rivalry if we hire any of these guys. But it won’t be with Bama. It will be for bragging rights to the state of TN.

I couldnt complain with Pruitt or Steele.

You got to strike while the irons hot with young coaches before they get somewhere and become established because one thing we all should have learned in the last few weeks is its hard to get an established coach to leave a job he's comfortable with.

That's why Im fine with Pruitt.

If we could get Steele and get Tee Martin to come aboard as OC/coach in waiting I dont think you could complain much about that either.

Mel Tucker better have a hell of a staff for me to be feeling him.

Wasn’t hard for Florida, Nebraska, UCLA, A&M, FSU, etc

We had Leach. Established
We had Brohm. OK
We could get Miles. Established
We could get Kiffin. Established
Hell, some say we had Gruden. Super Bowl
Now we gotta settle for guys we have already seen before. ie Dooley and Jones

I’m not an insider, but I can GUARANTEE you one thing. None of the names we are tossing around strike fear into the hearts of our opponents. Even Vandy is starting to think they can beat us on the regular now if we hire any of these guys.
