The Halfcourt Trap 9/26

Thanks Hat.

Is Joe Crawford's knee injury a concern? If that hampers him, it will hurt Kentucky. Seems he single handedly almost willed them to a comeback victory at UT last year.

I think Dennis Felton has quietly done a solid job resurrecting a program that had been dormant for a long, long time.

UT's backcourt trio might be the best in the nation. I don't know how many teams will play with 3 athletic guards like UT will, esp. if we see some improvement from Ramar (FT shooting in particular). And while we still lack size for defending the low post, any of our 5 players on the court at one time can rebound.

Also, if your prediction is correct and SC fires Odom, they'll be getting rid of a great coach regardless of how well he does this year.

If Crawford is limited in a significant way, the Cats could fall behind Georgia. I think they have enough depth in the backcourt to avoid falling any further.

Interestingly enough, from the reports that I have heard, even before the injury Meeks and Legion were making Joe look like he was standing still. That said the Cats will still require his skills and leadership.

Thx Lex. Maybe it's just the UK games I've watched, but I don't see Bradley carrying that team. So w/o Crawford, they'll need Meeks and Legion to step up.

We don't have a lot of beef down low for sure, but we have athleticism across the board. And what if Pearl tried a bigger lineup (Chism, Crews, Tyler, JP) together at the same time? Would it work?

I can only recall once last year when Chism and Crews were on the court last year. I don't know if Pearl changes that with our added size this year or not.

I really want to see Duke play more at the 4 this year. He's not a true post and he doesn't have the outside shot at the 3. Last year he played the 5 mostly with Chill at the 4.

Our "big" lineup might be:

Brian Williams - 6'10"
Chism - 6'9"
Tyler - 6'7"
JP Prince - 6'7"
Ramar - 6'2"

and if Brian Williams isn't good enough at the 5 it will probably be:

Chism - 6'9"
Chill - 6'9"
Tyler - 6'7"
JP Prince - 6'7"
Ramar - 6'2"

Of course that would give us no *true* outside threat unless Chilldress is just knocking them down left and right

I hear ya (tho Tyler can shoot). I'm thinking less about the size of our guards and more about getting a true 4 (not Dane) and also trying some lineups where our 3 is more versatile and can play down low (JP).

Hat, if you get a chance, I'd love to hear your rankings for the entire SEC (east & west combined).

The West is a six team car wreck. I still haven't decided how I'm going to rank them.

I can see some of these or a mix used on taller teams but we like the press and our smaller faster teams have made the Vols real good I think falling into the trap of taller = better is not a good thing.
