The Halfcourt Trap 12/18

I agree hat. The 3PT shot has become a joke in the college game. Also adding the arc under the basket would be a good thing as well. Really though, how many ACTUAL charges are there really in any given ballgame??

Hat, thanks and I agree with you on all pts.

However, what will Duke do if #2, 3, and 4 are realized?

Their 3pt production will go down, surely at least one of their 19 games on the ESPN/ABC network won't get shown (I mean, how are we supposed to spend a Monday night without Duke vs. Albany?), and the infamous Duke flop technique will become worthless!

(YouTube - dook's (duke's) Greg Paulus flops (better quality))

K won't have it.

I knew that fan of those goofy white boys would show up in this thread after TennNC mentioned that.

Thanks hat...great read as usual! I do have a bb ? for you and I am being serious.... I have seen you rate different college venues and with jokes aside what do you think of Vandy's gym? I have been there a few times and found it unique but I haven't much to compare it to other than those I see on TV. Just curious....

I agree with some but disagree with other points.

Whether you played D the first 89 feet means nothing, if you get back and get in position and take a charge, you obviously got back before the ball got there and got that position first. If the offensive player shoots the ball and THEN plows into the defensive player, the shot SHOULD count. The bottom line is, and officials will tell you this. The shot occured before the foul. To not count the shot makes no sense to me. If the shot occurs at the same time as the charge, then the basket should not count. Most of the time, this is not the way it happens though. Typically the shot goes up first, then the charge occurs.

Agreed on the 3 pt line being too close. 22 feet is a good place to move it back to. It is way to close right now. It is actually a pretty easy jump shot where it sits right now for 3.

I agree on the alternate possession rule. If the defense forces a jump ball, then it should go to the defense. 50% of the time, the defense out works the offense and gets nothing out of it.

By the way, I hate that players are allowed to call a timeout when falling out of bounds. As a coach, its stupid to allow it because you lose what could become a valuable time out late in the game. Either save it, or eat it.

Memorial Gym is a good venue. Its main drawback is that attending a game there involves both being in Nashville and interacting with Vanderbilt fans. It is also easily the worst place in America to coach a game.

Their unusual set-up with the benches at the ends of the court have always made it difficult to watch on television. I'd imagine that a coach, unable to watch the game unfold except from under the basket, is at a pretty big disadvantage.

What's wrong with Nashville? Or is that just because of the Vandy fans?

Please don't go there . Let's just say hat doesn't like Nashville and leave it at that.

To answer that fully, I would need to devote the better part of two days.

:eek:lol: I see I touched a nerve. :mf_surrender: I'm prejudiced because I live here, but I don't think I'd rather live anywhere in TN than the mid-state.

(And yes, Vandy fans are a$$holes. Nothing feels finer than driving through West End/the Vandy campus with my power T flags flying on the Sunday following a UT win)

Anyways - carry on, carry on. Nothing to see here.

I think they already outlawed that. I'm pretty sure you have to have a foot on the floor now to call a timeout.
