Ok so does Dooley get fired after saturdays game and does Gruden coach the rest of the season? If so does Gruden already have a staff in place to do this? Or does Dooley coach the rest of the season like Fulmer did. Also does Gruden have any ties with any other the assistants on this staff that he might keep? I hope he just keeps Jay.

My guess would be yes to Dooley getting fired and chances are no Gruden doesn't coach the rest. As for the 2nd and 3rd, I'm not sure, but chances are no to the 2nd question.

Sal coached with Gruden before. I think Pittsburgh .

Not sure when Dooley gets the axe but if it is before the end of the season, I would guess an assistant coach (probably Chaney???) would take over in the interim. Gruden (or whomever we would hire) would not know the personnel, plays, etc in order to be effective.

Just for the pure comic value I would make Palermo the interim coach. He hates the media.

Sal(Dline) and Gruden(WR) were both at Pitt in 1991, Marvin Lewis(HC Bengals) and Mike McCarthy(HC Packers) were also on that staff.. In 1992 Sal coached with Chris Petersen and Mike McCarthy at Pitt.

Dooley will not be fired before the end of the season. If that were an option, why not do it after the Alabama, Georgia, or Mississippi State games? Neither of those games were well played or well coached, it is not like some magical revelation will be revealed after the South Carolina game. Firing him during the season will have a much more negative impact on the team and recruiting than waiting until after the last game.

My thoughts:

1. Dooley will not coach the rest of this season regardless of whether Gruden is the new coach or not. I think the atmosphere on the team and within the AD is toxic.

2. Even if hired, Gruden will not coach the Vols this season. He will finish his obligation to ESPN for MNF if allowed under NCAA rules.

3. I hope the new coach will strongly consider Jay Graham. Former players who are doing a good job should not be crapped on if it can be avoided. The rest of the coaches are easily replaceable.

If Gruden is hired, is there any possibility he would bring his own defensive coordinator and demote Sal to linebackers coach at least until his contract is up?

I'm sticking to what I was told before:

Dools has already been informed that he is done. He won't coach after Saturday, regardless of the outcome. His fate has been sealed.

Gruden will not take over mid-season. There will be an interim-named coach but that's still unclear who it would be at this point.

i find it highly doubtful Gruden takes the job, cuts ties with his current employer, signs a contract with Tennessee, and then coaches our team in 1 week......

I hope it's Hinshaw or Graham. Those two and Pittman are the three who should be kept. Ax everyone else unless Sal wants to coach LB's and that's it.
