Any sport

Once I thought about this, I realized you'd need at least two categories of nominees. One would be for the Tee Martin/ Chris Lofton types, who were at the top in college, but who you knew had physical issues for the pro versions of their sports. The other would be for guys... well, damn, I can't think of any Vols. But players like WA State's QB Leifson (?) about 8 years back who was touted to be an ultimate pro prospect by all the folks who get paid to know, and then bombed big time. Bill Walton might be another, though you can hardly blame a spider-monkey built white guy like him for being hurt alot.

Anyway, what are y'all's nominees? For some sick reason, I'm suddenly curious. In fact, if we get enough serious nominees, I'll run a poll to come up with the 'winner'.

Are you thinking of Mark McGwire's brother Dan?
I would nominate Johnnie Jones, Dale Jones, and Curt Watson

I hate to state the obvious, but Heath Shuler should be given consideration.

Heath Shuler says "thanks."

Chuck Webb

I know he made it as a practice squad guy, but if it hadn't been for that knee injury, he could have been a great one.

Heath was screwed over by his NFL coaches.
I am a huge Redskin fan who was very disappointed at him falling on his face.

I just don't think Heath had it upstairs to make it in the pros. He didn't ingratiate himself with the Redskins players and coaches with his lengthy hold out either.

Guy that never got a shot: Casey Clausen (idk)
Guy who got a shot but screwed himself over: Travis Stephens (drugs)
Guy who got injured: Chuck Webb (knee)
Guy who didn't get it: Kelley Washington (ego)
Guy who was overhyped: Donte' Stallworth (been good pro, but i expected better)
Guy who bombed: Heath Shuler (was too small)
Guy who better pick it up quick: Robert Meachem (i know, the knee)

I'll get killed for this, but I thought Kelley Washington was going to have a better NFL career than he has so far.

Another guy that perplexed me was Jimmy Colquitt back in the '80s. He averaged 45+ yards per punt in college, but barely got a look in the NFL.

He never really had the desire to play in the NFL. He was more of an intellectual than most knew.

That and the fact he didn't get drafted and got his feelings hurt. He was overhyped the whole time he was at Tennessee because of his dad.

Chuck Webb, Dale Jones, Kevin Simon.

A guy I knew in college, Ronald Davis, was a first round pick by the Falcons but I don't think he ever played. Drugs would be my guess.

the secondary from 1996. I was a DB in middle school at the time and i loved those guys. Raymond Austin and Terry Fair were the corners. They both had ok careers in the pros. Fair stuck around a bit longer because he was a returner. Jason Parker and Tori Noel were safeties. FREAKIN LOVED THEM. neither one even got drafted that i know of. That is the best tennessee DB group i can remember. Maybe that changes this year??

My pick would be Tony Robinson. What was amazing that he did make a "scab" team during the strike, but never got to play. He was an amazing player; his arm was like a rifle.

I remember those guys and seeing them in the presidential courtyard sometimes hanging around. I liked them too... would have liked them more if they hadn't gotten so torched by Wuerffel and co!

But better than Deon Grant, Fred White, Dwayne Goodrich and Steve Johnson in '98?
