My dad still is p*ssed about this... In fact we were talking about it Sunday over breakfast... We were talking about Tebow winning and that eventually led to Manning/Woodson talk at which point my dad started to get all serious and muttered " there was never a bigger heisman travesty than what happened to Majors " he took a bite of his food, sipped his coffee and then muttered " *expletive* Hornung " ... I just sat there kinda weird looking and was like " ummmm yeah, going to finish those hasbrowns? "

I cant find any stats for Hornung. They must have been impressive. All it says at Wikipedia is that he led his team in almost every category and that he joked that he was amoung national leaders in KORs because his team was giving up so many points, they were always kicking off to them. He was so good his team won 2 games.

What a farce... but not as bad as Peyton getting hosed IMO. This award is the biggest joke in football.

Was and always will be a popularity contest.. Remember in High School how some skanky looking girl won Homecoming Queen, when there were plenty of other hotties that deserved it?

Oklahoma & Tennessee were 2 of the top teams in the country that year. And Jim Brown was...well...Jim Brown.

Paul Hornung...as great a pro as he was...only got his team 2 wins that year. But playing for Notre Dame is like having a "Get Out Of Jail Free" Card. No wonder they have 7 Heisman winners.

I say this every time this topic comes up, Jim Brown deserved that award. He even kicked for the 'Cuse.

The Catholic vote is what nailed it for Hornung. With no TV or ESPN to get it right it is very predictable...Brodie was also under consideration with J. Brown. To know that Hornung won it on a 2-9 team?? Is a farce... P. Manning was not very understandable either but you could easily blame ESPN for that Debacle.

The heisman is a total joke. Look at the winner and what they've turned into in the NFL. Who's they last heisman to be great in the NFL?

I don't care so much about our guys winning individual awards anymore. The "Hypesman" is all about hype and highlights. I want to see Tenn take home more team hardware...SEC trophies & NC trophies.

Woodson is Good but he is not the impact player that Peyton Was....Hornung was a great announcer... that is about it....Just as the Mac will be versus Tebow....The Heisman has turned into an ESPN Popularity Contest...

Interesting, ND won't have another finalist for a few years, if Weiss recruits guys that can't or won't execute or block, but I can just see the fatman taking a clue from Meyer and trying to have that kid at QB stats jumped up to build off of his high school hype (like another recent winner)

In fact, I hope the Tebow example has every team out of the NC hunt force-feeding the offense through one player in hopes of winning an individual trophy...sort of like a consolation prize...I can see it now

ESPN: "Grothe has passed 15, returned 2, caught 5 & rushed for 15 TDs, making him the only member of the 15/2/5/15 club clearly he is the Heisman frontrunner !!! even though he couldn't lead his team to a conference title"

Agree with all thats said. Untill we somehow get the perfect kid that espn just loves, we will never have a heisman winner. I still want a vol 2 win it and turn it down because of all the times we been screwed
