The Golf Thread

Well the weather really put a damper on my golf plans yesterday..

Sunday was one of two days a year that social members can also play the golf course. So my wife and I and another couple made a tee time to play...Lined up a baby sitter for the kids, scheduled an open house for our home, that's for sale..Thinking we could kill two birds with one stone...have a golf outing and get the house shown..

Everything was going great through the first 5 hole, I was one over after 4..Bogeyed 1, went par, par, par on 2,3 and 4..Get to 5 and in the middle of the fairway, and the sky's opened into a down pour..

So much for golf the rest of the afternoon, had to go turn the carts in and had a late lunch early dinner, and drank in the club house..

yea, it was still fun, just wish we could have played 18..

my wife also used the new clubs, I got her for Christmas, and she was crushing her drives..

Played Deadhorse Lake today. First time playing it. I had a double on 8 and a +4 on 9 for 87. If I could just get rid of those blowup holes I'd be around a +10.

That's about what i shot last time I was there, playing there tomorrow so I'm hoping for an 85 or below.

Completely changed my grip yesterday at the range, probably not a good idea a few days before the scramble. Oh well, I'll see how it goes.

Played a par three course across street from my apt today. Longest hole is 100 yards. Shot a 27 w a hole in one. Also we made a bet if somebody hit one in u win 100 so that was pretty cool. My longest hole out prior was 110. This was only 65 so kind of funny. My friends were pissed.

congrats

playing for first time tomorrow since my pinky was grossly dislocated. I may have to go baseball grip just so I won't aggravate it to much with an overlap grip.
And then with baseball grip, I won't care or think, I'll have a few beers and throw up a 77 or 78. Then I'll try it again and won't break 90 for a month.

Somehow I've missed this thread.. I just recently started playing a lot. I have no consistency. Played Thursday and shot a 52 on the front 9 and a 40 on the back...

Right now I carry my PW and SW and I'm about to purchase a LW. Thinking I'm going to go with the Titleist Vokey 62 degree.. good or bad idea?

what are the lofts on the other clubs..I like to have 4 degrees between my wedges

I'm looking at getting a membership for next winter to Fairways and Greens so I don't get too rusty between seasons. Has anyone had experience there, positive or negative? And what are the membership rates at?

I was a member for 3 years. Nice place. Especially for Knoxville. But it was a waste of money imo. If I have 2 hours to kill my money is better spent on a golf course. The indoor facilities are crappy to expect it to get you through the cold months.

Is 4 the general number? Someone told me 6 but I didn't know if it was just a personal preference thing.

PW is 48 and SW is 56 so it would put me at 6 degree difference between them all.. I feel pretty good about hitting shots 50%-90% so I feel like I would be able to manage.. but my thought process here could be flawed.

Have you ever swung a 62 degree wedge? That's a lot of loft.

Remember the good ole days when you just carried a 56* wedge and hit everything from a bump and run to a flop with it?

Gap really depends on the player. I have PW, 52*, 58*, 64*. I like having options with from 120 and in.

I ain't telling you your math is jacked up, but something seems wrong.

Ans now that the soles are user friendly, it's even easier.

I use a 54, and it's my default because it keeps from from getting enamored with the flops.

I probably shouln't even have mentioned the 4 degree, between them because that's my preference, I don't go with anything higher than a 58*, if I need more loft I'll open the club face, or ccontrol distance by the length of my back swing and follow through
