The Golf Thread

I'm no fan of Seve and his Ryder Cup shenanigans, but his is a sad story today and I do wish him nothing but the best in his recovery from this tumor.

He and Faldo absolutely saved European professional golf and he is to be commended.

Heard you were playing at Stonebridge last week.
Should have stopped by, would have given you a cold beer, and we could complain about the state of Tennessee football

I was playing at the Blessings last week. Haven't been to Stonebridge in a month or two.

87 today. i got it going on the back 9. i wasn't overly impressed with the course, but the greens were in decent shape.

Again, considering how god-awful that course was as recently as two years ago, it might as well be Augusta National now. For 25 bucks to ride 18 any day of the week, it's a good deal. Yes, it's short, but it's not as easy as it initially appears (how many of those postage-stamp greens did you hit?)

I'll be teeing it up at Rarity Point Saturday morning at 9:40. Then cleaning up and headaing to campus for some tailgating.

Should be cold and wet. Anyone every played there? Comments?

Going to play this afternoon after school. I don't think there could be better weather out there right now. Really looking forward to hitting some cars on Walnut Grove.

I like Galloway - played with an old man that jarred one on number 4 with a five iron this summer. It was his first hole-in-one after playing for 50 years.

What kind of shape is Stonebridge in? I heard they had a lot of vandalism on that course and they haven't really recovered. I haven't played it in probably 5 years, but I know their rates are way to high for that course.

Haven't been on here in awhile. I got a new set of Taylor Made R7's...absolute best clubs I've ever owned. Tore a tendon in my wrist earlier this summer so I wasn't able to play for most of the summer, but have gotten back in to the swing of things. Went up to Knoxville for the FL game and played Centennial on Friday and shot a 75, played Plantation here in the Memphis area last Friday and shot a 73, and played Cordova Club Tuesday and shot a 71. Playing some of the best golf of my life right now:dance2:

Stonebridge is in great shape x the bunkers

I played Rarity Pointe in Lenoir City Saturday morning. If you get a chance, you should play it. I was surprised how spread out it is - some holes have a 2-3 min ride from green to tee. It's pretty tough with tons of OB lining the fairways for some reason, but the maintenance is primo. It's only a year old so it needs some maturing, but it exceeded my expectations.

I am now torn. I picked up a beautiful set of Mizuno MX-17's and I love them so far, but I ran across a deal on a mint set of Taylor Made RAC CGB's that I could not refuse and I hit them just as well. I already have an offer on the TM's that would make me $75 but I am not sure what to do. Any advice?

get the ones you hit the best, as they are likely to be the better shaft / swing weight combo for your swing.

If you like the look of both on the ground, then the ball flight is the determinant. Forget the distances and get the one that flights it like you want.

That's the thing....I already bought both sets and ball flight is nearly identical, and I don't really seem to favor one over the other in any other aspect. The tie breaker may just be that my bag is Taylor Made.

the decider for me might be which would bring the most money.

I find it hard to believe that you're totally ambivalent. I'd come up with some way to decide. Maybe go through the bag and see which set you hit the most greens with or which set you hit the best long irons from. Do something.

For me, the stick with the least offset would be my call.

I don't know anyone that uses Nike irons, but I guarantee that the heads are third party manufactured just like most of the others and the shafts are rifles or DGs.
