Guys, I wanted to pass along a recent observation that is new to me. May not be to you.

I bought new fitted Mizuno 800 Pro irons this year. Had to drop back to regular shaft from stiff due to age/swing speed. Been playing graphite for years because I like to feel the head of the club in the swing; so we matched up 4.5 Project X shafts. The result was what I wanted and I like the new feel. Able to do more of a straighter, Dufner type ball flight. However, I totally lost the feel of my sand and lob wedges with their steel shafts in the process. The new set had included the gap wedge and I was shocked at how much longer, straighter and easy I could put bite on the ball. So I went back and ordered the other wedges with the same shaft. After playing them for a couple of weeks all I could think about was what an idiot I was for not doing all of that sooner. I will be adding a couple of hybrids to the equation very soon.

FWIW if you want better feel in your short game and are doing what I did.

Having played both and based on what you say there is a third option. Titleist Velocity - the new ball. Costs less than the pro V with equal distance. More feel than NXT in my opinion.

The velocity is a distance ball & a river rock compared to nxt & especially nxt tour. Pro v1 or pro v1x is the best ball there is.

you're nuts. There's no feel whatsoever in the Velocity.

Unless you play in the single digit handicaps, you might as well play the NXT Tour.

i have some rbz irons and a hybrid 3. love them. you won't be disappointed imo.

I agree I am nuts. But I could have sworn I saw my ball back up with the 8 iron down when I hit those greens today. It's a distance ball for sure though - which most of us single digit handicap hacks play anyway when we are not in a tournament.

Tourney: Pro V. Everyday: Velocity. Y'all can have your NXT's.

I actually like to play the NXT Tour S especially when the greens are soft and fast. I tend to over spin my wedges and it tones the spin rate down a little. You definitely can't rely on spin as much on the pitch shots as with the Pro V1, but I've always preferred to use loft rather than spin to stop the ball on pitches anyway.

The Velocity is like hitting a rock.

I spin the ball a lot but love the feel of the pro v1x. I'll play nxt tour too & experiment with other balls from time to time but not those hard, clanky distance balls. I can spin one of those rocks but it usually peels a chunk of surlyn off.

for any higher handicappers like myself, I recommend Callaway Diablo Edge irons. Just got a set and these things are long and ridiculously easy to hit. My yardage went up a club.

Also just scored a Nike Machspeed Black Driver - got mixed feelings about it so far.

I really wish the idea of yellow balls would catch on. It would speed up play.

As far as my index, I could post it, but it's pretty meaningless given how little I'm playing.

I think it's one of the most underrated sporting events there is. I can't imagine playing under the kind of pressure they face during singles on the last day.

Going to be weird with all the yelling and energy. I just want to find some cool Europeans and watch them get hammered.

oh I will. I don't really get drunk anymore, but I imagine I will this weekend.

Proud of Sneddy too. Can't believe he just won over 11 mil in one day. He grew up playing one of the chittiest courses in TN. I'm wondering if he'll give some money to McCabe to upgrade some things. Took a lesson from his teacher a couple weeks ago. Think I'll be a champion now?

I have a buddy who played college golf against him. Only person he said he couldn't stand playing with.
