The Golf Thread

I have a whole set of clubs for sale if anybody is looking for some. I've had them for about 2 years and have probably only played 15 rounds of golf with them.

Ping G5 irons 4-9, S wedge, U wedge

Ping G5 18 degree 5 wood

Cleveland Hi-Bore xls 9.5 driver
Mizuno bettinardi A01 black putter

Comes with a brand new black/white titleist bag and I'll throw in a ton of Nike/pinnacle/titleist golf balls too.

I've never had a problem with any of the clubs I just never play anymore and they could do somebody else some good.

If you're interested let me know pretty soon and I'll send some pictures and we'll work it out before I put them on Craigslist.

What shaft do you have in this driver>

Nicklaus predominantly played a fade. Woods, when at his very best, has played a fade. Hogan played a fade. Norman plays a fade. Watson works it both ways. Faldo plays a fade. Snead played a draw. Nelson played a draw. McIlroy plays a fade.

I agree most predominantly play a draw, but the very best hit fades

Tiger has prodominantly been a drawer. Same for Hogan & Mcilroy. Palmer played a draw. Bobby Jones played a draw. Mickelson plays a draw. Good golfers can move it either way but most have a natural draw ball flight.

Mcilroy is def a drawer. That's why his miss is a hook. Tiger hit a few draws off the tee on Sunday when they put the pro tracer on there. Were incorrectly called fades thoihh

Tiger and Hogan are definite faders. Other than maybe Nicklaus, Hogan was the truest fader of all time.

Tiger plays it both ways actually, but he's definitely been most dominant and longer when he's fading it.

Tiger has said is natural shot is a draw. It was at one of his clinics. Most of his shots are right to left. That stinger he hits is always right to left.

I will just say you're wrong. They can fade the ball but it isn't their natural shot. Like I said before Tiger has said himself his natural shot is a draw. Have you read Hogan's book? He fought a hook hence the weak grip & wouldn't practice in a right to left wind.

And Hogan was a journeyman until he figured out how to consistently fade the ball . . .

GOLF: Most golfers have had an experience while practicing when suddenly something clicks. It's sort of a "Eureka!" feeling, and although it may last only for a day or two, it feels wonderful. Have you ever had that sort of experience?

HOGAN: Yes, years ago. When I first started on Tour, I had a terrible problem with a hook and I struggled constantly to learn to fade the ball. Finally, one day I said to myself, "Henny Bogan, you have got to go home and correct this. Otherwise you're never gonna make a living."

So I came home for two weeks and worked and thought about my game. I'll never forget, one night in bed I got an idea, something I might try. Well, I could barely wait for the sun to come up the next morning. Out I went to the practice tee and started trying out my theory. It worked. It worked all day long. And the next day. And the next day too.

So I said, I've got to take this out on Tour and put it under some pressure. The next week was the George May Tournament in Chicago—and in those days he had two events, back to back. A big field of players competed the first week, and then the top 12 from that tournament went on to play for big money the following week. Well, I went up there and won both of them.

I was just saying his natural shot was a draw/hook. He had to make the changes to keep from hooking the ball which was a weak grip with a draw swing.

First hole of the season was a par... Played 9 holes and shot a 42. Had 3 more pars, but the doubles killed mess. I'll take it though

Going to play windswept dunes tomorrow, it's about 20 miles East of Sandestin

Nope. That's not how the swing works. For the tour pros who LIKE to fade the ball, a pull hook is their miss due to double crossing at the bottom. A blocked shot is the miss of a player that likes to draw the ball.

I am looking at a scorecard from Windswept Dunes. I shot 78 there. 42 on the front; 36 on the back. 7607 yards...longest course in Florida. We played her from the tips!

Lee Trevino? Didn't he fade the crap out of everything?

Trevino was an odd situation. He actually hooked his short irons but figured out that the one shot he could hit consistently was a blocked cut. That's why he aimed so far left.

Yeah, that is what I remember....him aiming way left on everything. Couldn't remember exactly how that worked.

He wasn't trying to hit a fade on 10 at Augusta last year. There's more than 1 miss in any swing & no matter what you're trying to hit.

True. Everybody on 10 at Augusta is trying to hit a sweeping hook to use the downslope. That was a pure and simple panic attack, quick hook. I don't think it would have mattered what kind of shot he was trying to hit.

Unless you've been to the Masters and know how short and left of the tee those cabins are, you can't truly know how bad a tee shot that was.

Still, a fader typically is going to either double cross it and hit a pull hook or come out of it and leave it short right.

Who is the biggest jerk off the course...Nick Faldo, Vijay Singh or Lee Trevino? I have a friend who volunteered at the senior event they had in Nashville for a few years. He said that when the camera was on him, Trevino was the 'Merry Mex'. When the camera went away, he was the biggest jerk out there. And that is saying something since that senior bunch is the grumpy old men tour.

There's a lot that seem to be douchers. I saw Couples's being an ass before. Nicklaus always seemed like a prick as well. I'm sure there are some genuinely cool guys on tour but there's a lot of stuck up A-holes too.

I've heard similar stories about Trevino and have heard that Singh is an all around miserable person. I met Faldo at the Heritage a couple of years ago out riding the course on a Thursday morning. Only talked to him for a couple of minutes, but he couldn't have been more cordial.
