Bama was regularly kickin' the Vols' asses before Butch got here..... an older guy such as yourself should know this.

I have been watching and going to this game since 1968, so I have seen the ups and downs, but there was always passion from both sides. I have seen the runs of 9 or 10 games by each team. I am really talking about the passion and what the game means. Saban has taught his players Butch has not.

The 3rd Saturday in October used to be "the Game" for the Vols, now the Vols can't beat Vandy or SC, much less Bama, it's been many years since the Vols have won a east championship and now mediocrity has set in and no one believes anymore......Sad really:popcorn:

EXACTLY. The Vols used to be AT LEAST competitive with Bama, and the "Third Saturday in October" was the BIG game, and fans wondered which of the MAJOR bowls we would be travelling to.
Fast forward to 2017...and Tennessee has to sweat VANDY for God's sake. That wouldn't be such a big deal except for the fact that the University's commitment to the Football program appears to be quite robust, yet we're steadily fading from the national spotlight.
Sad indeed.
I don't have the answers. I don't know enough about the dynamics of building and maintaining a nationally competitive NCAA Football team...that's why nobody is paying me FIVE MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR...
GO VOLS..!!!

I used to enjoy it when i thought we had a chance. Haven't felt that way since about 2007. I'll be on the water this weekend. Its like bringing a knife to a gun fight anymore. Not fun watching your team get pummeled.

I have dreaded the third week in Oct pretty much the last 10 years, living here amongst the Bammers. I will be happy to at least be competitive when we play them...one day.

I still remember the 5 OT we won in 2003. l went to that game in T town... that was sweet, still brings a smile to my face ...watching the dejected bammers headinghome. How things have flipped.

I will be going away with my wife this weekend for our Anniversary. She has told me we are not watching the game or listening to it so I won't be mad over the weekend. My response. Whose mad. It's just sad at this point. My apathy has been set in for awhile.

To be fair this isn't a Butch Jones thing. It doesn't matter who we brought in, it would be like this. And honestly, 2 years ago we had them beat. This year just seems so much worse because its back to what it was with Dooley and Butch's first 2 years...we don't stand a chance.

It has been a long, long, long time since the Tennessee Alabama game had significance.

I’d say there have been about 5-6 must see TV games between these two in my lifetime.

1989 and 1999 are the two that stand out
