The freshman bible study will bode well...

Have you ever whipped out a bible and studied it in front of friends or co-workers or fellow students? It's not an easy thing to do to be quite honest.

As it should be. How comfortable would you be if somebody whipped out the wiccan version of the witches bible and tried to "pray for you" on their pretense? Nothing against anybodies personal beliefs, but they should keep it what it should be - personal.

Yeah, they could boil you in oil or blast you off to the moon on their broom.:)

Great analogy.

There's nothing wrong with having both. (Not murderers of course.) Young men who are strong in their faith and exhibit discipline are a good influence on young men who need it. And young men who aren't as disciplined encourage those who are (don't we all have friends we try hard to be an example for in one form or another, and therefore makes us stronger?)

It's a win/win for all.
Good post.

At age 18, this kid is very impressive. Glad he chose to wear the Orange!Sounds alot like Jarnell Stokes. I don't think we'll have to worry about Drae being on the police blotter...

I'm not sure about the details of the Wiccan faith, but genuine Christian faith isn't meant to be kept personal. The Christian faith results in a life that is changed, so much so that person wants to tell others about Jesus Christ being Lord.

Drae Bowles also held a bible study every night this past week at the Army AA game. He headed it up by himself and got it done. He also listened to Christian rap as well and was slightly made fun of but he didn't care. We need guys with this type of character on our teams!

Amen to that. I have no problem with us recruiting kids who have grown up in single-parent homes in bad neighborhoods and have had a hard life -- maybe even a scrape or two as long as it is nothing serious. On the other hand I do not want us to be recruiting thugs just because they might be gifted athletically.

I believe that Dooley is headed in the right direction with his recruiting and has done a great job of building a strong core group of superior athletes and who are also young men of good character -- kids who respect authority, obey the law, and fear God. Kids who are not ashamed of being Christians and try to live what they proclaim to believe and like Bowles are not ashamed to lead a Bible study. Praise the Lord for such young men.

They are the core that Dooley wants to be the leaders and set a good example for the others to follow. They are the ones he wants to build the team around, and I very much commend him for that.

I have a close friend that is Jewish and one that is a Shia Muslim. We have deep respect for each other's faith. We do not belittle one another. But both know that my faith requires me to be a witness to them in all I do or say. I do not cram it down their throats, but I do not change me to make them feel better about their beliefs. When I lead public prayer in a business setting they respect it and may pray or not pray as they desire. This is the same when a Christian such as Drae leads a group. Words are cheap but a life lived out as Christ would want it is a life well lived by any measure as it will be filled with good deeds done for others.

Well said, and true.

I love when we are able to recruit "class" individauls. I feel Dooley has definitely tried to change the culture and recruit these type of guys. I also feel Cuonzo is doing the same for the BB program. Makes it a little more difficult to win but look at all the "trouble" 5* guys we have had in the past several years that didn't make it to their Sr. year (Banks, J. Jackson, Brett Smith, Nu'Keese, Coker, WIngate, T. Smith, etc...) I'm probably leaving out dozens of others...

Bret Smith NOT a 5 star

played his senior year, but missed bowl game due to academics
