The "free play" was the one for me...

It's easy for us to sit and say what Joe could have or should have done. We aren't the ones getting our heads knocked off on the field. We are 5-1. He must be doing something right.
230 rush yards per game is what the team is doing right. Not joe. You can play with anyone with those rushing numbers. The question is what happens when saban says I’m gonna put 6-8 in the box and make Joe beat me? We shall find out next week.

I hope Joe has the game of his life.

This is my biggest worry especially against UGA (if things are the same by then). If Bama stacks the box and forces us to throw can Milton make those throws and can our receivers create space? I haven't seen a whole lot that makes me think we can do those things but my brain is stuck in TAM mode and kind of blurred on the first part of the season. Watching on TV it looks like we almost never have any breakaway receivers that are wide open. Joe is going to need those big open spaces to hit receivers.

What seriously got me was the fact that he ran out of bounds on that play. He could have gotten the 1st down he just ran out of bounds. He either doesn’t have heart or just doesn’t get it. Either answer is not good.

Couldn’t trust the refs to throw a flag on offsides or false start this game, they were terrible on all sides. I don’t blame him for assuming the refs might pick up the flag or call illegal procedure or something dumb
What? That’s why he should have gone for the first.

Look I love Milton...hit positive attitude, his leadership...the fact that he stuck around so he could get his shot, all of it. With that said, I realized on the free play where they jumped offsides and he casually ran out of bounds a yard short of the first down that he just does not have what it takes to be a great QB in this offense or even really good. You HAVE to throw that downfield or get the first down. We got stuffed on 3rd down and then failed on 4th and they drive down for a TD and it should have NEVER happened. I could not believe it because that is such a simple play. You have to have more awareness than that and he just...doesn't. I also realize that good or bad this year is his so while I am frustrated I will hope for the best!
This was the play that did it for me as well.

We all know exactly what we are getting with Joe Milton now. Great athleticism. Cannon of an arm. Better than average game manager. Exceptional leader in the locker room. But is not a dynamic playmaker who can take over a game.

My take away from yesterday's game is that Max Johnson is 10x better playmaking QB than Joe Milton. Johnson was able to make some dynamic plays like diving for the pylon and scoring the touchdown, and also able to read the pressure and get several pas attempts out at the last minute and avoid taking a sack. And some of those third down conversions with defenders right in his face were pretty amazing.

I totally agree with this.
Putting the QB statistics comparison aside, I have to say that Johnson just looked the more aggressive QB and to me played harder.
If he had the TN running backs he probably would have looked much better, seems he knew all the pressure was on him.

Procedure would have blown the play dead, along with any other pre-snap offensive penalty. The lack of situational awareness was on full display when he failed to throw the ball downfield. Should have simply put one up, period. We have to live and try to survive with Milton currently, and none of us know whether Nico gets meaningful snaps during the back half if this season, or it be comes his team in spring ball. I do like this team and how they are coming along.

That and the 4th and 2 where he threw it out of bounds.

We stretch the field horizontally with 3 receivers lined up sideline to sideline. Put 7-8 in the box then you’re choosing to place 3 db’s on an island without any safety help. I’d bet CJH is dreaming for a defense to try that alignment. JMO

What’s bad is that this exact scenario played out just 2 weeks ago vs South Carolina. I remember telling my wife then, “I bet he isn’t smart enough to take a shot downfield here.” And sure enough, he rolled out and got a minimal gain on the ground. Milton is a terrible decision maker, and he doesn’t learn from his mistakes. Not good qualities for a QB.

Like you it was THIS play that finally nailed it for me. No situational awareness whatsoever. It explains the Ole Miss step-out, it explains so many things. But why you run all the receivers AWAY from him and give zero check downs on 3rd and long is a mystery to me. But yes, when this play above happened, I came up out of my chair at home and the light came on for who he is. A great young man, a fantastic teammate, and solid good guy.......but not a QB1 in our system. So sorry to say it.

Plays like that are frustrating, for sure. Unfortunately for Joe, most of his small victories throughout the course of a game are hidden from the public eye - like getting us the correct formations on run plays. He doesn’t get any credit for helping us run for 232, but he should. He also doesn’t get credit for the good downfield throws that he did make because of no-call pass interferences. No credit for motivating our OL in the weight room. No credit for teaching Nico Nico the offense. All we see is a guy who doesn’t always make the right decision and a guy who consistently throws behind his WRs

It did it for everyone in the stadium.

The game moves at one speed and his brain struggles to keep up. This team is succeeding in spite of him currently not because of him. This team absolutely can beat Bama if they can get something out of the qb position but they won’t with Milton.

Well, I'd say it would be quite a bit worse if he was throwing a ton of interceptions or losing a bunch of fumbles or never scoring touchdowns. So I'd say it's some of each.
They’re limiting him a lot where there’s not as much possibility of that happening. Play calling is hamstrung by the guy we have at the helm.

If it took you this long to recognize this, you're either slow on the uptake or you're incredibly patient and optimistic. I suspect the latter and admire your outlook.
Hell I defended him till this weekend. That play though is inexcusable. Dumb decision compounded by spineless execution.

Really would love to know what he was looking at on the INT as well. Just idiotic.

Probably get our heads kicked in most likely, Even with them not being very good this season you're not beating alabama on the road without stellar qb play. Hope im wrong tho.

Agree with this yesterday for sure. After that costly int they definitely didn't want him passing the ball anymore than necessary. Every team we play now will scheme to stop the run and make Joe beat them. They don't fear him passing.

I certainly hope so, but while others don't have a high opinion of Milroe, that dude worries me due to his ability to run. We've been much better defensively, but we'd better check that aTm tape and find out how they controlled him.
