That made the difference and could have gone either way:

1) The fumbled reverse by the Gators down on our own 1-yard line. If we don't manage to fall on that ....

2) The Patterson drop. That's 6 if he hauls it in.

3) The first Bray interception. I really do give UF defense and the coaching staff the credit on that one. Passing lane was covered well there.

4) The Trey Burton run. That seemed like it broke any momentum UT might have been able to muster.

It was a game of big plays. Gators made them, UT didn't. That simple. But really, if those break even between the teams, anything like that ...

#1 and #3 were too early, but the fumble would have been huge and it would have been interesting to see how Driskell would have responded.

The killer to me was not doing anything after stopping the fake punt.

the two biggest plays were the two hunter drops. first, they took hunter mentally out of the game. he dropped his head the rest of the night. second, they were both on third down. the first gave the gators the ball back at the end of the first half, and instead of us scoring, they went down and got a field goal. the second was when we needed to respond, and instead, killed the drive.

I agree. Muschamp completely panicked there and we could have really turned up the heat on the, if we'd merely gotten a couple of 1st downs and gotten points. Would have been a really neat time to be able to run the ball a little. :banghead2:

this .. I truley believe the team thought they had won this game because FL was desperate enough to try it and we actually stopped it.... but then the worst "I left my brain on the side line" play by Bray with the grounding.

All true. Our reaction to the big plays is the more concerning part. Your gonna miss opportunities they other team is gonna catch you in a spot during games. What do you do with that?

Our staff hit the panic button when it was 20-20 our players fed off that.

If Driskel continues to improve that kid has a high ceiling. I was impressed with his ability.

I recall one of those. He looked despondent. Don't know which it was relative to the ones you are talking about.

The fumble that the Gators recovered on their own 1 ... yes, it was early in the game, but if a UT lineman picks that up and literally just falls forward for the score, Neyland might have been so loud it would have registered on the seismographs in California.

I said after the A & M game that he was improving every series in that game, you could see it. Same here, although this was a much more controlled game plan in terms of his scrambles. Hope we can hang onto OC Brent Pease.

LG, you seem like a reasonable fella most of the time. I enjoy your perspective. While I think the big breaks went your way, the truth is that we didn't deserve to win that game.

It is considerate of you to try and give a little hope the beleaguered Vol fans (and those that play at being fans), you and I both know that we got a royal butt whipping. We started believing in our own press and suddenly thought we were world beaters. We got smacked back to reality.

I will say that FL is better than I thought. I was believing that this was our year. I was wrong.

The turning point of the game was the stop on the fake punt. We couldn't get five yards. We lost it when Bray threw that bad pass on fist down. What's more Bray is not the second coming of Peyton (maybe he is with respect to FL). Spurrier would have benched him in the 3rd.

We've got a "hard row to hoe" and it aint gonna be pretty around here for a while.

Muschamp did an outstanding job...

It seems the Gators should do whatever they can to sign him up for another decade.

I wouldn't blame you for renaming the swamp either... he's that special. :hi:

Thanks for the kind words.

I really did think that UT was going to win. I mean, yes, after the A & M game I was encouraged, but I just thought overall Neyland was going to be too big an obstacle to overcome.

Did anyone else happen to catch the stat on ESPN right before the game began about how close the rivalry has been? If I remember correctly, there had been 41 games in the series, Florida leads 22-19, and that Florida had scored 845 points, UT had scored 844.

I may have the numbers wrong, but I am sure it was just a one point differential over roughly 40 games.

Glad they didn't show any numbers from about 1993 forward.

LG, I'd feel better if you'd simply pledge your lifelong support to Muschamp, in light of his accomplishments. :hi:

Its a little early for that.

But I'd say this start has bought him a bit more leeway with the doubters.

People really do not realize how bare the cupboard was left by Meyer, who had mentally checked out a full two years after he formally left.

What are your thoughts on Muschamp at this point? Does he need to beat one of Georgia or Florida state to win your confidence?

He will reach a point where the OC will be able to give him more options and that will make the offense even better.

I thought UT would win the game because we had the better more experienced QB. That was straight up false in that game.

Butterfinger Hunter hurt us. Bray was off the entire game. He was zoning in on his target and he needs to learn how to read the D and check off; not look to the sidelines. Bray reminded me of Manning, just choked! Our secondary looked horrible. Florida's QB and backup secondary looked good. Definitely misread our matchup.

To be honest, I am not nearly as well versed on how good those teams are as I might have been in years past. I know where they are ranked, and that's an indication I suppose that we are not expected by others to win those games. I don't feel like I am in a position to disagree since, as I say, I don't know those teams this year.

Rather, what I am paying attention to is whether I feel like UF is moving in the right direction and at a pace I'm happy with.

The Gators the past two years were just mediocre, at best. No identity on offense, the defense was very good, but the team was just nothing special. But this team has gone on the road, as slight underdogs,or at least certainly picked by many to lose, in about as tough a pair of environments you can imagine.

Both times they fell behind. Both times they adjusted where they need to and stuck to what did work, and prevailed. That's hard to argue with.

One of the unsung-big play(s) was Driskell barely escaping a sack then rolling out to find a receiver down the field for a first down. I am pretty sure we had good pressure on him for the length of the game, just couldnt take him down. That has been the story of our pass rush for the past three or four years.

The Vols looked clueless in the 2nd half, complete collapse on both sides of the ball. Another national embarrassment.
fla has a new coaching staff too. :ermm:

Fla's fake punt smacked of desperation. They were needing a spark and trying to shift momentum and UT snuffed it out. If UT were to try that and Fla would've stopped it I would 100% guarantee that Fla would've gone on to win that game. What happens? Bray has an intentional grounding and Chaney's play calling goes brain dead and we get nothing out of the stopped fake punt. Then Fla takes a simple end around and goes 80 yards because we have a corner that doesn't know how to tackle.

UT had Fla right where they wanted them at that point and couldn't go up 2 scores to put pressure on Fla. One of the most bizarre turn of events in a game that I've seen.

You could be talking about 4 plays from Teague. The two td runs by Burton and the long passing td. And the fumbled reverse we did not get. All Teague, all the time. 374 yards after halftime :eek:lol: . Gators have not had 375 in a game!!!!

That was the turning point. CP was there. We have to block Florida's line to be able to pass it on them. We had routes there all day. But they had pressure all day. Hard to pass when the line keeps breaking down. And then the tailback won't run strong and break tackles. Bad combo against an SEC team. -- Our fans are too caught up in plays. Players are more important. We need linemen on both sides of the ball. We have depth players. Now we need some big time talent to go with it. And a senior class will be nice to have next year.
