South Carolina gave up 500+ yards to NC state and has to force turnovers to win = monster...

Tennessee gives up 600 yards vs GT and has to force turnovers to win = horrible team...

Ummmm....

2-0....today was basically a scrimmage....you all saw what this offense was capable of with a legit opponent, dialed in, the fight they had, and only 18 minutes of possession time to make it happen.

Yet here we are...trashing this team...not knowing what this staff is trying to ultimately do on defense...this staff has a lot of experience on the defensive side of the ball....they obviously have a reason for playing the first game in these fashions....after seeing us against Va. Tech, Florida, UGA, and Nebraska last season where we fielded the healthiest squads we had last season....I think the best is yet to come.

Wow. It seems like yesterday winning in the swamp. 34-31 was it? I know it was Spurriers last game vs Fulmer...and how great it was for Phil to get that win...but man...it's been 14 years? I still have the game on VHS.

2003 was the last win. Not 2001

So far we've won the games were supposed to win. This season is projected at 8 and 4 so the florida game is one were supposed to lose hopefully we break through. I think Vandy is better than florida.

We're going to make Florida's offense look like the golden age of Nebraska. They are going to rush for 400 yards.

Florida 38
Tennessee 23

You have a point... they have not played a snap in over two weeks. Don't know how they will handle it. On the other hand they have 2 weeks to prepare. So don't know.... mmmmm

They may not be able to practice until Tuesday or Wed. The game may have to be moved fo Atlanta indoors. Gainesville will be a disaster plus the storm is moving up through Georgia and Tennessee as well as the Carolinas which would make travel to the game hazardous.

Butch has done a fine job here up to last season. Part of his success in stabilizing the program in regards to talent and depth is that he got to do so when there was virtually no expections for his first few years.

Now that there are reasonable expectations, he's shown some issues.

Yea, 14-18 in the trash SEC eastern division is a hell of a coaching job.

I know that these kids played 2 games in 5 days. That the coaching staff was not trying to show anything for the SEC games. The players and coaches main goal was to not get any injuries and get young players reps to get them adjusted to game speed.
I know not to put everything into one game. The SEC is not won or lost against Tech or ISU. There were some positives to take out of the win (Kelly, Calloway).

I also know we won't get blown out at Florida on Saturday. Florida thankfully has a very weak offense. They have a very good defense, which why it will be a long frustrating day of 189 total yards and Kelly with 18 rushes for 45 yards. Dormady 8/21 for 104 yards and one INT.

I hope to goodness I am wrong. I hope for the best and that we play lights out and win by 3 or 5 points. Just being realistic that we have not won in the swamp since 2003 when we had a great team. Just don't see a way our offense can score or our defense can stop a crucial 3rd down and 7. Or a 4th and 4.
Hope I am wrong and crucified for being completely wrong. I am just hoping they can fix it before the UGA game in three weeks.
In your post you inserted an unnecessary word 'or' between the number 3 and 5. I highlighted that for you. Any particular reason for that?

Jansek was good and CbJ wanted better (by rep) and went after Shoop. He my or may not live up to rep, at least CbJ went after him. I have no doubt if the D does not improve, Cbj will make another change.

Just as when we fell a couple games short of expectations last year and he made coaching changes.

The X-and-Os professionals on this site have determined CbJ is not X-and-O guru type coach, I have no back ground in the game to argue the point.
However my vote, even if the unpaid professionals here are correct, is for UT to keep CbJ. He recruits and runs the program well and is willing to make changes in the staff. My bet is he will make changes until he has assistants who can handle that silly X-and-O stuff.

I recall CPF would not make these type of staff changes to fill in the gaps in his own knowledge of the game (as the game changed). Change is necessary when goals are not meet and no one knows everything, not even a HC. (oops - Almost forgot the unpaid pros at VolNation do seem to know-it-all).

Starting over would be a Yuge mistake.
