The Florida and Vanderbilt games MATTER

respectfully, after you called anyone who believed we may struggle against Arkansas and Miss State, or lose to OU “clowns and cowards”, I think you really need to take a step back and sit this one out.

Your track record isn’t exactly the best this year, lol. If anything, your confidence on this one makes me even more certain we’re in for a terrible night in the Swamp.

Florida could swap rosters with Bethane-Cookman and still give us fits in the Swamp. Winning down there or against Florida in general hasn’t ever been easy since I’ve been watching Tennessee football starting in the early 90s. I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

I'll be honest, spoiling Vandy's season won't matter to anyone if we are in the same boat this time next year. We are Tennessee. The fact our season accomplishment comes down to spoiling Vandy's season is downright awful.

Let Vandy lock up a berth in the CFB by beating us and you’ll see how much it doesn’t matter to spoil their season. We’ll be hearing about that until next November. Personally, I’d rather not give them any bragging rights.

Are you saying that this Florida team is not the worst Florida team we will face this century? They are literally very likely to finish 3-9. This is a prediction of a game result. This is stating that they are an awful team.

I am interested to see how the players who think they will be drafted perform when their team has been knocked out of the playoffs. They have already proven a bowl game is not worth risking injury if they're draft eligible. They have their NIL money so will they play full speed, will they play at all? We need to beat Vandy at home regardless.

They aren't an AWFUL team.

Lead UGA for a vast majority of the game and Kirby has a top-8 type team.

UF is playing a difficult schedule.

Florida is not a good team. They should be 2-6 instead of 3-5 if Jeff Lebby didn't go full moron passing the ball inside the 30 yard line when he had a chip shot FG in the backpocket.
You said the Sooners were turrible dude

Truth - we are a mediocre football team / mid SEC. If you lose one game such as the UGA game . . . But play better in others, OK. But that’s not what has happened. We genuinely blew it in the UGA game. Against Bama, we had one bad play (so the argument goes). Against Oklahoma, we had one bad (so the argument goes). At a certain point . . . It’s that we have a turnover prone QB (yes, he throws the deep ball well . . . But he came in with a turnover problem and that has manifested more and more as the year has played out), and we have a shaky kicker, and we have an OLine that has turned out to be not so great, and in two games (Oklahoma and Bama) our Dline got no pressure on the QB, and we are penalty prone.

UT is mid level. They have beaten no one of consequence this year. No one. They almost lost to two bad teams in MSU and Arkansas.

If they beat Vandy . . . They will have a win again a decent to good team. If they beat UF, they will have beaten a bad Florida team.

I agree these games matter . . . But they matter more from not losing than winning. If we win both, it adds two decent wins. But, we still have a season where we lost to the three good teams on our schedule - UGA, Bama, and Oklahoma (and Oklahoma may not be that good). If we lose both, 7-5 is not a good look.

That's my point. Any kid with NFL dreams, or just planning to enter the portal, is incentivized not to play in a meaningless game that, for him, represents only risk, no reward.

Dang right it matters! Players still want to win and perform well. If you play like you don’t care believe me scouts are watching. Boo sulking and attitude will do him no favors. Most players want to win. Arkansas has played more inspired since the change. Florida played hard against Georgia, abd neither are going to the playoffs. GBO

2013 Florida was pretty similarly bad. I'd take 2025 over them if for no other reason than I think Lagway is a better option at QB than any of the turds they threw out in '13, but meh.

Not really. Florida just lost a couple starters for the rest of the season to injury and opt outs. But sure, if you call that the same Florida team, okay
It doesn’t matter who they lost it’s Florida and Tennessee. They played Georgia tough. Florida didn’t care when they were beating us when we had some weak teams. If we win that’s 3 out of 4 years. So get out of here with that silly talk. You play with who you have whether the team is good doesn’t matter one bit, that’s there problem. If we win it means we were the better team that day. It’s a SEC game against a SEC talk trash rival and it’s time to whip their arse. And then as a fan I will talk smack to any Gator in sight because they do it regardless of a teams strength and so does everybody else. It’s not our job to apologize for beating a SEC team even if they aren’t any good. GBO

No. Not the BCS. Whehen the BCS around, the other major bowl games were the "who could be a contender next year" previews. People still cared about the major four and to an extent the Citrus, Gator, and Cotton bowls. It was still a glorious hodgepodge outside of the one big game.

The CFP is what killed all that. Because it's all about owning the product. When the schools switched to the CFP - conveniently something that ESPN completely and fully owned for marketing purposes - well, hell, all of a sudden the only thing that mattered on their shows and the greater sports sphere was the CFP. Funny how that works. And that's why I said the "sports media machine." The CFP was engineered by ESPN and other media interests to claim control of the post-season, which is what they always wanted. They wanted to own the sport. And once those interests met the schools' price, those schools were apparently happy to sell it to them.

We're just stuck in the results of that transaction now.
...well said. And for this reason along with the monetization of all things sports, I have, will and forever hate E$PN.

For us to win in the swamp, it will take moving a traditional early season game to the end of the season so Florida can get run through and fire their coach, have players opt out, and an interim with one foot out the door. Such an accomplishment!
None of that will appear as an asterisk in the record book. It will be a W or an L. That's all that matters a win in The Swamp.

Vandy won’t be able to sustain their winning ways next year. Beating their ass and keeping them out of the playoffs matters much more than you think
