"The Film Guy" - Reaction to the Game

Yeah, he definitely wasn't a fan of Banks using man coverage all game. Also comes right out and says UT is a playoff team.

Ty Redmond got us killed yesterday. I mean, hes a freshman so its not entirely his fault because Banks should have known man-to-man was not going to work when you have those matchups.

idk how we could have played it any differently. We don't have the dudes up front to play a bunch of zone coverage either and we don't have the dudes on the edge to be playing a bunch of man. Pick your poison.
That's exactly right....When you can't play either you are in trouble against teams with an offensive pulse.

Tim Banks is always going to try to stop the run first, because thats one of the only ways opposing offenses can deny us additional scoring drives. So yeah if we can't stop the run with 4 down linemen and 2 linebackers (and I don't think we can)...load up the box, play man to man on the edge and hope for the best.

If we had played a bunch of drop 8 coverages, Georgia would have run for 250+ on us.

We can't stop the run.....and if we'd played zone their WRs would have broken records and the TEs would still be catching and running.

maybe we get healthier and improve with fundamentals and technique on defense and start to lock things down, but that side of the football is scaring me right now.

Nope. We tried to adjust out of the half. We said, oh they are having success in the passing game lets try some zone looks...and they ran it down our throats on a 75 yard 8 minute death march.

Has he ever watched a Banks team play zone? My goodness, no down and distance on 3rd down is safe! It's 3rd down and 30yds, we play zone, 33yrd completion. It's 3rd down and 5, slant route completed for 7. He doesn't do zone well IMO.

I think we liked how our CBs matched up vs their WRs better than how we liked our mix and matched DL against their OL. And it did allow for some extra pressure and created a huge TO for us.

Yeh if we'd have been getting picked apart in zone, I'd have broken my TV. At least we gave our guys a chance and we locked them down on numerous occasions. One of the rare times I disagree with the "Film Guy" .

I wasn't a fan of it when Monty was running it , and that was his gig. If you have Eric Berry and Ed Reed back there, sure. Otherwise it's just a slower painful bleeding out.

They ran for 198 as it was. Neither team's defense was up to the task of stopping the other offense most of the time.

I'm not even mad about Saturday. Our team is better than I expected. Defensively, we got after the QB. Linebackers played the worst of all the groups. I was really impressed with our young secondary. Sure they got beat a few times, but there's not much you can do on that 4th down touchdown Stockton threw. That was just a dime.
Matthews, Staley, Brazzell all looked like prime SEC players. O line played mostly good, albeit one crucial error. Rbs looked good. Qb play was significantly better than Nico.

I watched UCLA Friday night, convinced I'd see Nico do better against a traditionally bad program. Nope. Telegraphed throws, bad mechanics, and the guy just isn't a leader. No emoition to the game. I get it that you can be cool and poised, but if your play doesnt back it up, it's just comes off as not really caring. You have to have a QB that helps elevate everyones play and Nico just doesn't have that. They were running all the small routes he ran here at TN and you could tell there just was no improvement whatsoever. So, it sucks to lose and lose a 9th straight game to GA, but I feel much better about our program as a whole. After watching that UCLA game, I knew we had the best shot at beating GA during this streak, because we really did upgrade at the QB position in terms of leadership and overall play.

“Pick your poison” is probably the defensive game plan way more often than what most DCs will admit.

I believe it was TFG i watched last week who did a couple of shows on what to expect on offense and defense from each team. If I have the right guy, he said what you do not want to do is go zone against uga/stockton.
The right plan is on the coaches. the right execution is on the players. our young guys got torn up. Even so, we had the game in our hands at the end of regulation.

We will be a better team for this loss at the end of the year when it counts most.

He had a tough game but the TD pass in the 4th Qtr, there’s no defense for that. Gotta give Ga Qb credit for a great throw.

We rarely see the plays where he covers his guy. His PFF rate wasn’t great but it’s wasn’t horrible either. He’s not the reason they lost.

IDK how many times it needs to be said, "It's the Jimmy's and Joe's, before the X's and O's."
For the past 10-15 years, Georgia has always had more and better Jimmy and. Joes than ant SEC Team except for Alabama, and Texas A&M. We are and will continue to gain on them in the near future. Time is soon coming when we will be playing them with equal talent.

nothing I've seen this year makes me believe that this defense can stop the run. Hope things get better if we can get Hobbs and Moi back.
