The Film Guy Brooks Austin tweets about Heupel/UT

Well to be honest we knew who we were before the season began. We aren't recruiting at the top of the league. We are not good enough to beat the teams with the real talent (NOT UF & UA, who are average teams that are actually on out level). We were hoping to win. And as I have said on here many times before, the "Hope Strategy" usually fails to launch. There are one game miracles every now and again, but not a seasons worth. You really do have to have great players to win the SEC. And only then can we talk about playoffs.

Some of us think we can bypass being the best team in the league and magically sneak into the playoffs with 10 "wins", luck our way into the 5th seed and wiggle our way to a championship.

Be very clear. That has not yet happened and is very unlikely to ever happen.

We will know when we are back. It will be evident. No guess work will be needed. And we damned sure are not there now. Not even close.
UA as in University of Alabama? You think our talent level is on par with Alabama?

His best coaching job will be when he fields a team that's capable of actually beating the best team in the SEC, and then going out and proving it on the field.

It's his own fault that he didn't have anything to go to and had to end up "maximizing" his poor talent collection all the way into clearly losing to the only two good teams we played and also losing to one of the many average teams that we played.

Gotta be way better than this. And the clock is ticking. Teams are getting better right now. 10 "wins" next year will be tougher, while obviously having less along both lines of scrimmage. That's not a recipe for success in this league.
Sorry he made the playoffs with roster as bad as it is. Beats 2 out of 3 rivals in a year when it was “his own fault”.

The DL didn't regress from the GA game moving forward. They never were the world beaters everyone thought they were before the end of the season! It wasn't just the DL. It was the entire D and the schematics! Banks isn't the ELITE DC most on this site feel that he is! What has the D under Banks did against all the ELITE Os that he has faced? Is he a great DC? Yes! But, UT needs an ELITE D to shut down ELITE Os to win MOST of the BIG GAMES! Banks hasn't shown he can make halftime adjustments against good teams. Yes, he needs a few more ELITE Jimmy's and Joe's. But, he doesn't appear to be the ELITE DC UT NEEDS!
Our D-line was dominant in the first 9 games when we held all of our opponents to 19 points or less and we knocked out 6/9 starting QB's which really is hard to fathom in today's game. If you think our D-line played at the same level against, UGA, Vandy, and OSU then I don't know what to tell you.

And, of course, that is not all on the players and, yes, I especially blame Banks for the end of year drop-off. He has to do better (just like our O coaches) at scheming (we are very predictable too often and he had to know we were going to get a steady does of the UGA gameplan which is exactly what happened) and in-game adjustments.

Who is calling for a change? I haven’t seen a lot of people saying that. Just idiotic folks who have no perspective. One bad loss doesn’t taint all that he’s done here.

Change at OC. While everything in the Tweet maybe true, the offensive play calling was not imaginative. If you WRs can't get open deep, try quick slants and outs. Where were these plays? Even Sunbelt teams can run those.

Those are tough place to play no doubt. So let's say we lose to Bana on the road but beat Arkansas at home.....same record!

The only question then becomes the UF game on the road. That leaves 9-3 or 10-2. If you have been a fan long enough then you remember the SugarVols that had ZERO chance against Miami. Poi t being - that is why they play the game
Look at the WR room UF has built around Lagway. They have tons of momentum now. I am afraid they are going to show us how to build around a QB. Gonna be a very tough game.

Pure speculation based on stars! Not production.

LOL, if he watched a football team with a bad offensive line, no weapons, and a first year
starter make the playoffs then the logical conclusion is the coaching was subpar after four years of recruiting. The roster is literally determined by the coaches.
You’re right. We didn’t have a decimated roster, recruiting restrictions and a terrible reputation with HS coaches when he started. Any monkey like you should be able to turn on the magic recruiting switch and fix things instantaneously.

You and I usually agree, and Banks definitely played the odds instead of gambling. In fairness, it’s pretty hard to scheme around the loss of Pilli and the slowness of Brooks. If there’s one thing I wish he’d done, it’s switching to a stunting scheme against teams with a superior OL. We were way too cocky in believing we were going to beat UGA hat on hat. Ole Miss destroyed them with stunts. Same story with OSU. Their line was talented but young due to injuries. We shouldn’t have tried to beat them head on.

You’re right. We didn’t do any recruiting over the last four years and the coaches are not responsible for the roster. I don’t know how we recruited anyone with the recruiting restrictions and terrible reputation. Must be a miracle, thank you Lord. Any monkey like you should be able to continue to turn on the magic excuses switch as if that’s going to fix anything.
