The "f-bomb"...wow

Oh good grief! It's FOOTBALL...we can be "classy" when we are winning...if we are losing 41-10...to hell with class! I mean....people...It's FOOTBALL!!!...It makes idiots of all of us! Just wait...in a month you too will desperately follow 17 year old kids on their facebook page waiting for the next crumb...and you too will believe ridiculous rumors about how a friend's mom's next door neighbor dated the next 5*'s dad who told a secret source that he is totally going to commit to Tennessee...( but beware...he will end up at USC) and then, I bet, even you will drop the F-bomb! I learned to insert "F.U." Alablama into the song Sweet Home Alabama before I knew my ABC's. I have been at a Bama game where a UT fan was stabbed... seriously...stabbed! Now THAT is classy! I guess the tradition of the sport is supposed to be "classy" and "clean" and "bla dee bla" in theory...but it is FOOTBALL!!! Sometimes the lack of class makes it fun...really fun! And the truth is...I am a sweet mouthed southern bell who has white gloves and meets for tea...but when it comes to FOOTBALL.....I proudly say.....FU Alabama!!!:wink2: And my daddy would be proud!

If I weren't married I'd go to great lengths to find you. :air_kiss:

I'm 28, I'm a UT grad, I use the F-Bomb all the time. However, I have to admit it's embarrassing. For those of you who defend the "F--- You Bama" cheer by claiming that it happens at a lot of campuses, I ask you, should we not hold our school to a higher standard? Do you really want to be like those other handful of schools that do this? I'm not saying there is way to have the student section not say these types of things, but to me I think we're above these types of unoriginal, thoughtless chants. Growing up a Duke fan from Durham, the University of Maryland has always used these types of cheers at home basketball games when playing Duke and I have always thought how pathetic it was that this was a cheer. The even more pathetic aspect of this chant is that it is usually used when the home team is losing.

"F--- You Bama!!""F--- You Bama!!"F--- You Bama!!"" That sure shows them while they're in the Victory Formation and kicking our ass. Personally, I think if you participated in the chant then you are a f---ing moron.

Maybe people should be more focused on cheering for our team as opposed to cheering against the other.

Wasn't much good to cheer about after halftime.

This is kind of like berating people as they walk out of McDonald's for having a crappy diet. Yeah, you're probably right, but there's not much of a point to doing it.

Gotta agree with volgrl here. When we are getting beat 41-10, and the bammers start that rammer jammer crap, civility goes out the door. Cursing and classlessness should be expected. I would even be fine with Dooley turning the dogs loose and letting late hits fly all over the field.

...I don't know, maybe not, but it would make me feel better.

Jeez, lighten up people. It's a bunch of 18-20 year olds being 18-20 year olds. At least people didn't get stabbed--stay classy Kentucky and Georgia fan.

I totally agree and expected that response from people. I guess I just think it's a major sign of weakness when you have to result to insults to try to make yourself feel better. I know it's UT vs. Bama. I hate F'N Bama as much as anyone, but there are better ways to show our hatred than what we did last night. I wasn't there unfortunately, but I've been at games that that chant has taken place and I thought it was classless and ignorant.I know it's difficult for some people to be fans right now, but we are better than that.

I mentioned my disappointment about this in another thread, but i feel it needs deeper discussion.

Here is my thoughts:

I'm sitting there and our student section drops the "f-bomb" - I was shocked and embarrassed at the same time. Absolutely the most disgusting thing I have ever witnessed. Do we NOT HAVE ANY CLASS. I know what some will say...they, being bama, are nasty as well. That doesn't matter! I don't know if i have ever been more outraged and disappointed than I am now. I knew we were out matched, but for the life of me I didn't think we would be OUTCLASSED!

Get over yourself with this sanctimonious drivel. It is a college football game... not polo or a night at the opera. "Class" has nothing to do with SEC football unless you are a Vandy fan.

Seriously. I don't know what's more ridiculous...people wanting a 4th coach in 3 years or people complaining about hearing a dirty word at a football game. More proof that the puss-ification of America is taking hold.

No one too young for the F-word should be exposed to the kind of violence being inflicted upon the Vols. The game itself should be censored.

It's a rivalry game come on dude!! I loved it!! Just like back in '06 the F U bama chant started
Because I had a bama jerk behind me the whole game, walking back after the game a guy was talking trash saying the would state of tn is crumbling then he and his ugly a$$ girlfriend started singing "f you rocky top" and the last straw was at stefano's when I steped away from my table to get a to go box, and when I came back a table full of bama frat boys with bama bangs stole my pizza!! I gave them the angry black guy look and I immediately got my pizza back!!!

It's disrespectful to go into someone elses house and act a fool like they own the place But the home crowd can do or say what ever they want!! No it's not a written rule but it's just the way things are.

My experience Saturday just gave me another reason to hate the Alabama crimson tide!! So F U ALABAMA!!!! Students keep doing what you are doing!!

Never been to a game without hearing that from the student section. I think most college student sections are guilty of such.

This thread kind of sums up what needs to change about Tennessee football. How can you get mad at a group of drunk college students for standing up IN OUR OWN STADIUM, OUR HOME FIELD, when a group of Alabama kids go into OUR student section at OUR house and start a F-you UT chant?! This is a heated rivalry with much dislike for each other. Yes, it's good to have respect and be classy, but c'mon, if you have a problem with the UT students retaliating and standing up for our team and our school then don't come back to the games... I don't condone the unnecessary or frequent use of any profanity or if it were used in a stupid situation, but I'm happy we stood up and showed some pride. I think it's said in Rudy the best, "No one, and I mean no one, comes into our house, and pushes us around." Now if our football team could adapt the same attitude for 60 minutes we might actually be onto something. Bottom line, if you have a problem with what happened, knowing the situation now, get over it or don't come back to the games, give your ticket to someone who's not going to sit down the entire game.

OP needs to lighten up. It's a student section in an SEC rivalry game, not church. Auburn supposedly has a reputation as being one of the more friendly and hospitable venues in the conference but I was at their game saturday and have never heard the phrase "f*** off you f****** corndog" more in my life.

Please.

We were the only section that stayed out in hurricane Eugene during the Oregon game. I'll do/say whatever I please in that stadium as long as I pay to be there. If you can't handle post-9 PM language then go to church.

Wow. The "F" bomb. I mean it IS the student section so next time you sit close, try to realize that it's a bunch of 18 year old drunk kids who are getting to live a little bit for the first time in their lives. Sit back, and enjoy the game.. because it's probably you who also yell at people to "sit down" and "stop yelling so much." If you can't handle game time atmosphere, then sit at home in your den and enjoy it on tv.. maybe someone there will actually listen to your complaints. Thanks.

Seems a lot of the posters on here have no more class than the student section showed.
An educated person does not have to use that type of language to express themselves
Then please educate us. Who decides which words are acceptable and which ones are not? Why are certain words considered profane, while "substitute" words, WHICH MEAN THE EXACT SAME THING, are perfectly ok?

It's a rivalry game. Get over it. We started the chant because a group of Alabama fans started a F-UT chant directed at the students.

No, I WON'T get over it! Just because another person or group is classless, tasteless, crude & profane is no excuse. The student section was an embarassment to the University of Tennessee Saturday night. Maybe y'all need to learn a deeper vocabulary in English class.
GO VOLS!

Well, you don't have to get over it. But, good luck trying to change it. If you can find a way to police the student section, then by all means. But raving on this board is not going to change anything. Try telling the students that they are an embarrassment to the University and see how far that gets you!

i think everybody forgets class when it comes to TN-Bama

No kidding. Anyone who gets offended at a little language needs to go read about some of the shenanigans that went on way back before TV. It used to get pretty nasty.
