From what I can decipher, the 2021bowl selection pecking order for SEC teams is as follows
CFP
The remainder of the NY6 are paired by the CFP committee
The Citrus Bowl gets first pick of the remaining SEC teams
The SEC influences assignment of SEC teams to the following
  • Outback vs B1G
  • Texas vs B12-2
  • Liberty vs B12-2
  • Music City vs B1G
  • Gator vs ACC
  • Las Vegas Bowl vs PAC (2020)
    • Belk vs ACC (alternates years w. LV Bowl)
The pickings for unclaimed eligible SEC teams
  • Birmingham Bowl vs AAC or ACC
  • Gasparilla vs ACC
All but Vandy are bowl eligible
UGA 12-0
Bama 11-1
Ol' Miss 10-2
UK 9-3
Arkansas 8-4
TAMU 8-4
Tennessee 7-5
Miss State 7-5
LSU, Auburn, SoCar, Mizzou, Floriduh 6-6

Between the CFP committee and the Citrus, I'm thinking that the top four are taken. Tennessee seems destined to be among the SEC shuffle bowls. I gotta believe that Arky and TAMU will lobby heavily for the Florida Bowls, Outback and Gator. If you're UT, do you prefer the Texas, Vegas, or in-state bowls? If in-state, Memphis or Nashville? IMHO, this year, the Music City Bowl is best of these for the Vols.

Of course, with bowl committees and the SEC, there's the WTF factor. We'll not know Ship-High-In-Transit until the pairings are announced.

I hope we get a better bowl than KY like a few years ago, just so they cry about it again

So you don't want Tennessee to be paired with Minnesota. Minnesota has won it's last four bowl games, including defeating Auburn in the 2020 Outback Bowl. In 2021, Minnie is 8-4, having just shut down Wisconsin for their season finale. They will make a fine opponent, and Tennessee ending their bowl win streak would garner media attention.

You want UT to face an ACC opponent...
No ACC team is going to be in the CFP, but it's top two are attractive for the remaining four of the NY6. At 10-2, Pitt and Wake aren't going to fall to a pairing against 7-5 Tennessee in the Gator or Gasparilla bowls. Clemson and NCSU are 9-3. What happy accident has one of these paired with Tennessee when 9-3 UK or 8-4 Arky/TAMU are available? Sure, nobody travels like Big Orange fans. Our rep is still strong enough to be attractive to bowl committees and local businesses. BUT, the likelihood that UT slips past those with better records to meet an ACC team in the Gator is slim, and UT isn't going to drop to the Gasparilla Bowl...

If UT is in the Liberty Bowl, their likely opponent will be ISU or KSU.

For the Music City Bowl, the best pairing wold be one of the three 8-4 B1G teams - Minnie, Wiscy, or Purdue. If not one of them, then it's the 7-5 Nittany Lions.

The Las Vegas Bowl? ASU (8-4) is projected. OrSU and WSU are both 7-5...
